When the The Talitha Colony Ship left Earth, it was put in the direction of the Pisces constellation. The planet was found after the Talitha had been drifting through space for thousands of Earth years. Generation after generation was born on the ship. They were given no set destination, simply sent off and told, 'good luck.'
By the time they discovered the planet, the ship’s inhabitants had been truly worried they would all parish in space. The ship was old. Some plants and animals they were growing onboard for food were showing signs of genetic weakness. Some species had already been wiped out.
They sent drones planet side to test for fitness. After weeks of studying the atmosphere, radiation levels, plants, animals, and letting the AI onboard predict long-term stability, they decided to maket his planet there home. It was impossible to know how much longer they’d have to fly to find another habitable planet. This would be there one hope. Their safe harbor.
