The Ixala Isles (Ik-Sah-lah)

Located just off the southern coast of the jungles of Seruna, the Ixala Isles are truly a sight to behold. Floating high above the waters below, these airborne landmasses have long been considered to be sacred by the Xothgi for their magical nature, and are of great interest to scholars seeking to understand magic. Due to their nature as floating landmasses, combined with the dense jungles covering their surface, the majority of the Isles remain unexplored, even with the advent of airships, ensuring that they remain a place of great mystique well into the current day.

Geography

The undersides of the Ixala Isles are hard and rocky, though some plant life still grows from them, ranging from particularly hardy flowers and leaves to hanging vines. The surface of the Isles is very much the same as the Serunian jungle from which they were separated, with lush jungles broken up by small lakes. Interestingly, clusters of Aetherite of various sizes dot the Isles, though whether they're the cause of the Isles unique properties, or simply a byproduct of them, remains unknown.

Localized Phenomena

Alongside the fact that the Ixala Isles are floating landmasses hovering several metres above sea level, they also experience rainstorms more frequently than the rest of the mainland, with a light drizzle with some sunlight being the most common weather state. In fact, during times of particularly heavy rainfall, the lakes scattered throughout the Isles would overflow into rivers that run over the sides of the Isles into floating waterfalls, further adding to their natural beauty.

Fauna & Flora

No land animals are found on the Ixala Isles, though many species of tropical birds roost there, and often travel between the Isles and the mainland. It's also been reported that a few species of colourful fish live in the lakes scattered throughout the Isles. Additionally, a number of tropical plants and fruits are found on the surface of the Isles.

Tourism

The fantastical properties of the Ixala Isles have drawn in a number of people from beyond the jungles of Seruna, from scholars trying to understand the nature of the Isles strange characteristics, to artists seeking to use the Isles as inspiration for their newest works, as well as those who simply wish to admire the Isles natural beauty.

Lair of the Raincaller

Among the various legends and myths surrounding the Ixala Isles, the legend of the Elder Dragon Axeodras, better known to the Xothgi as the Raincaller, is the most well known. According to legend, Axeodras built his lair deep within the central Isle (which is also the largest of the Ixala Isles), and it's here where he remains to this day. The constant rainfall the Isles experience lends credence to these tales, as Axeodras was known to favour water magic, often manifesting it in the form of rain.
