The Great Bridge

Spanning the width of the gap between the cities of Dhal Thurim and Khar Khelldar, the Great Bridge is one of the most impressive feats of Dwarven architectural skill in the world. First constructed during the reign of High King Thurim, and finished around the beginning of the reign of the third High King, Amgir, the Great Bridge was constructed both to improve travel to and from the capital of Dhal Thurim, as well as to serve as a display of the power and influence of the kingdom of Durfaehn. Even after thousands of years, the Great Bridge remains a marvel of architecture, and is regarded as one of the great wonders of Taeva.

Purpose / Function

The Great Bridge was constructed to directly connect the cities of Dhal Thurim and Khar Khelldar, making travel between the two easier for Dwarves and other sapient races. Besides this, the scope and artistry of the bridges construction was meant to serve as a display of Durfaehns wealth and power.

Alterations

Over the centuries, the Great Bridge has had various new statues and engravings in the pillars representing various figures from Dwarven history added to it since its creation. Additionally, restoration work on the bridge and its artistic elements are regularly conducted in order to keep it in working condition.

Architecture

The Great Bridge is constructed entirely from stone in the blocky and durable style of the Dwarves, with precious metals like gold and silver inlaid into the statues and engravings found all along its length.

Tourism

Anyone entering the city of Dhal Thurim must cross the Great Bridge to do so, ensuring that this landmark receives many visitors from those with an appreciation for architecture and the common folk alike.
