Prompt 7 - The Creative Arts

Describe the nature and style of at least one of the creative arts popular in your region.visual representational art, literature,(for example music, one or more of the predom
As with all prompts in Synergasia, this one is intended to get you thinking about the people of your region and their everyday lives. It is important to understand what makes your society "tick" in order to be able to understand how they will react to situations and conflicts that you write about in the future. The expression of culture through Creative Arts can help you better understand your people. For this prompt, you can take any of a number of approaches, depending on what you think you'll need for your region. You could focus on one art form and get into detail on it. (You could eventually do many such articles!) You could take a broad approach to the subject and simply list (and briefly describe) a range of art forms.   Here are some suggestions and hints for you to consider - but do not assume that you need to respond to every one of these "questions for thought":
  • Are the creative arts purely for entertainment? Are they supposed to be educational? (e.g. stained glass windows in western churches told bible stories to the illiterate folk. Do they convey history? Current Events? Religious Tenets?
  • What styles of music are popular? Instrumental or vocal? Solo, small group, or orchestral?
  • What styles of visual arts are popular? Painting? Sculpture? Realistic or abstract?
  • What styles of literature are popular? Historical Fiction? Romance? Religious fables and myths? Poetry? Prose?
  • Are there "high class" and "low class" art forms? What are their distinctions?
  • Are there "forbidden" art forms? Are they banned for religious purposes? Political purposes?

Submission Guidelines

  1. Make sure you're pointing to the Synergasia world when you create your article.
  2. The Suggested templates above are just that - suggestions. If you really think a different template is more appropriate, then use it. If you have a customized template that you want to use, then use it.
  3. In the event that your new article introduces something that changes something in your region's Canon article, please highlight this somehow. (A note in the footnotes will be sufficient!)

Suggested Template(s)

Once again, it appears that the Tradition template is possibly your best bet, but that may depend on your exact approach. If you are focusing on written word, the Document template may be better. If your focus is on art that teaches religion, the Religion template may be worth looking at. And, if none of the specific templates seems like a worthwhile match, there's always the Generic template

The Rules

The only rule in Synergasia is that your worldbuilding is restricted to your area unless you are actively collaborating with a neighbor. If you are collaborating, let us know and we'll make an entry in the Canon articles to notate it.

Other than that, your region is your world. Go for it!

There are no prizes... no judging. An article with 300 words is probably the low end of "enough to be useful", and more than 1500-2000 becomes a "wall of text" that will frighten people off. But there are no hard restrictions on minimum or maximum word count.

We will review your article and will, from time to time, extract certain facts to be included in your region's "Canon" article. These articles will be guides for you in the future, and for anyone you wish to collaborate with. ("Canon" will include things like capital cities... names of rivers, settlements, deities... major past or present events... wars... conquests... You get the idea.)
