Landofey

Area

Landofey is the realm of The Ferians in Francalia .
Unbeknown to humankind, the Ferians have their home under the Lac Bleu .

There have always been Ferians on the lands of Francalia.
The Ferians do not live in water but in deep (usually damp) tunnels burrowed in the soft mud and rocks of the lake.

They are amphibians and very good swimmers, they will come up to the waters to find food and hunt.
What has kept them from being noticed by other species is not only their subterranean habits but the fact that they are in fact very small in height - roughly the size of a human hand.

The Ferians are natural at magic and are particularly adept at controlling wavelengths and colours.
They can produce lights, colours, and heat to light and warm their underground homes.

Physically they are very thin of body, with a long head and long arms and legs.
When in water or in the air, they can deploy fin-like wings from their arms and legs.

The fins are particularly beautiful, as the Ferians like to imbue them with all sorts of magical colours.

Ferians are gourmets, and have a great gastronomic tradition.
They find their food by foraging and hunting at the bottom of the lake.
They also grow a few root and mushroom crops in their dens and tunnels.

They do not craft metals as they do not seem to have any use for them.
They are very adept at crafting vegetals of all sorts (including wood), which they use for clothes, furniture, objects, jewellery - anything really.

The Ferians are master woodcarvers.
They use the roots of trees and other vegetal species to craft scenes and bas-reliefs, as well as ornate carved furniture and objects.

Habitat

- The Lakeshore Tunnels

The lakeshore tunnels and dens are very much prized by the Ferians.
Despite the proximity of human habitations (always a danger), the lakeshore dens offer access to the plants and wood of the shore as well as easy access to the lake waters.

Some Ferians will not adapt to live so near humans and will prefer the safety of the deeper waters.

For the Ferians brave enough to overcome their fears, the rewards are great.
Resources are plentiful and the slightly warmer climate, especially on the southern shore of the lake enable Ferians to raise a brood every year instead of every two/three years.

The bracky waters from the lakeshore swamps are particularly sought after as they are in the most part empty of human presence.
No Ferians would ever build their homes near human ports.

The crevasses and tunnels in the southeastern shores are also ideal to set up home- crustaceans of all sorts abound in the clear waters under the rocks.

- The Knowes

In the middle of the Lac Bleu, the lake ground rises and form a series of hills or The Knowes .
This is where the Lords and Ladies of the Ferians have traditionally lived for generations and generations.

The Knowes are filled with grand ancient tunnels and dens, and most high-status Ferians live there.
On the surface, the tunnels are not visible and their entrances are well hidden by the weeds and the storm debris forever present on the hills.

When hunting, the Ferians are also masters of disguise and can camouflage  themselves very well against the predatory eyes of humans.
They also know how to avoid the bumbling, noisy fishermen and their nets.

- The Lost Lands

The Lost Lands  are the extensive underwater plains that lie between the Knowes and the shore.
If the lake could have a desert, this would be it.

The Lost Lands are poor in resources and food. Not many Ferians would choose to live there if they could help it.
A few communities struggle to make a living in these harsh waters.

This is where the Lord and Ladies traditionally send the people (and their families) who have displeased them.
Once you are cast to the Lost Lands, it is very difficult to come back and settle in a more hospitable terrain.

Some outcast Ferians ultimately make their way nearer to the shore - if they can convince a den or clan to take them in.
