Hampton Getts watched Lola Vine shashay passed their previously shared motel room and get into her car. He sighed and pulled on his second boot. He sure did enjoy his Wednesday lunchbreak. Wednesday was the day Lola drove through town on her way to Breakneck Cove on the other side of the mountain. She stopped for a quick gas up at the station, a quick pick me up with Hampton at the motel, and then a quick fuel up at the diner before continuing on her way.
He stood and put on his jacket, taking his cell phone out of the pocket as he did so. Scrolling through his missed texts brought him to an excited message from his co-worker sent 20 minutes ago.
"I solved it! I found an aberration in the numbers we've been running. I made the necessary changes and I solved it! I unlocked the portal!"
Hampton sat heavily on the bed, cell phone loose in his hand.
Oh. Oh no. This. This was bad.
A call came through. He waited until the second ring to answer. "Hello, Patten."
"Uh, Hampton," Patten said in a not excited whisper, "we might have an issue."
"Oh?"
"Did you see my message?"
"I did."
"Good, because, uh, I accidentally released a Goblin."
Yeah. Bad.
