FTL Coming Soon!
Since Humanity's expansion into the great vastness of space, we have been faced with the greatest challenge of making a home within the void; Gravity. Indeed, engineers of the past have been the giants of who's shoulders we stand upon today, as they have developed systems to overcome this challenge.
On top of this, another challenge has been getting from one planet to another. For over 100 years, we either had to endure the long journies across the solar system, or wait for the most optimal time when Planets are closer to each other. Stuck inside vessels that would become our homes for weeks, months, and often years are soon to be a thing of the past.
The CTO of
Gravitech,
Emily Baker-Dawson contacted me in the late hours of the night to organise a meeting with her the next day, saying she has a "world changing annoucement." Well, you know what happened next; I went to sleep, after accepting and arranging the time of course.
So, on the 18th April 2171, I had an exclusive interview with Emily who worn a wide grin. Before we even greeted, she told me "we did it."
"Did what?" I puzzled.
"We have sent a satelite from our research fascility around Jupiter, to a section of the Solar System near Saturn...
...in less than an hour."
At first I thought this interview was a prank; but Emily immediately shown me both the footage and data of the experiment. World changing indeed; and before I could even ask how, she tells me.
"Basically, we have constructed a device, or a set of devices that are networked together to form a bubble. When a vessel travels through this bubble, 2 things happen.
1. They are launched across space in great velocity.
2. Upon the ship, there is no interia or push back from the splattering acceleration; as the ship is inside it's own bubble or Sub-Space."
After almost an hour of going over the details. I probed further; "So this uses Dark Crystals as some kind of fuel?"
"Yes." she replied.
"And this will work on ships?"
"Absolutely."
"When?"
Then with a wink and a cheeky, chesire grin, "soon." Then Emily rose and left.
Soon, Humans will be able to travel Faster than Light. This is major implications as not only will we be able to cut travel times dramatically, but interstellar travel is now possible. At least, without the need to develop Generational Colony Ships. I am proud to confirm we will be able to go where no human has gone before.
