Ditto

Ditto is the only sanctioned social media platform by the Nations of Earth Alliance. To this day it is used by over 2 billion users a day. Other social media platforms do exist, if you have the link for them, however it is Ditto that is the "most popular as it is the safest and most transparent platform ever" as stated in the Stellar Times Network.

History

Origins

The social media platform was created by Connor Alwood in 2033 at the age of 22, during the time of decentralised and unregulated Social Media. Alwood created ditto because he wanted "space to vent without the fear of being censored, cancelled and fired from my day job because I said something 10 years ago that they [his employers] disagreed with."   What started out as a side project, become a global phenomena as thousands, then millions of users signed-up to Ditto and began to safely express. In 2037, the platform had the most active users per day and had broken records of the highest daily posting in the world.   For 5 years the only advertisments on the platform, were posted by users on their pages. This was because the website ran on a donation-based model, where users would optionally pay (or donate to) the platform to keep the servers online.   However, it was not until 2038 when Alwood began to gain ad-revenue by accepting and selling advertisement slots. This gave the social media outlet a dip in acitve users, however the figures risen back in not even a year later.   In the annoucing post, Alwood expressed; "As much as I hate going back on my word, sometimes what needs to be done, still needs to be done. I would like to thank the millions who have supported Ditto for all of these years, however it was not enough."   In 2039, Alwood resigned as CEO of Ditto, after the platform received many attacks by hackers. It is said that these hackers targeted Ditto after claims that Alwood "sold out" to major corperations.

Post Alwood

Since Alwood's resignation, the platform experienced a sequence of back-to-back resignations of CEOs and the departure of other board members involving scandals of dodgey deals and 'donations' from corperations. Many people at the time would, and had, commented that these were all the doings of the so-called 'cancel culture' of the day, as anyone accepting payments from larger companies were viewed and condemned by many would be corrupt.   Historians would claim that Ditto played a major in the War of Humanity, as people from both planets expressed their views by posting various form of content on Ditto. Many different insights and opinions were expressed. However, much of Ditto's archives is filled with "rants, vile insults and pointless exchanges" as described by Professor Marita Farrow of the University of Shropshire-upon-Trent.

Centalisation

In 2115, 2 years after the formation of the Nations of Earth Alliance, it was voted by the public of Earth for the government to decommission and centralise all social media outlets into one platform, Ditto.   Marco Oliveira became the first Minister of Social Media, whose job was to ensure Ditto was the safest social media platform, whilst also maintaining people's rights to free speech. To ensure public safety when using Ditto, Oliveira's first action was to implement an algorithm that would allow users to keep their anonymity.   All users must provide identification during the registration process, but whilst engaging publicly via the platform users can set a custom username. This is to ensure the users that anyone who uses Ditto with neferious or harmful intentions are not only denied access to the platform, but are also prosecuted by the Public Safety Act 2113; an act that was also voted by the public.

Present Day

Nowadays, Ditto is used by over 2 billion users per day. It is consider by most the best social media platform, and is safer than the other dodgey sites that are being created, and then soon disbanded.   There are a few who, since the Centralisation of Ditto, are against the NEA government to be owning and using tax-payers money to keep the so-called "Propaganda Machine". Jess Mills of the Prying Eye is known for their controversal opinions as they often publish articles claiming the corrupt nature of Ditto, but evidence is yet to be found.
