The Court

The Court functions as an informal seat of government for the Grand Society (which actually has no unified governing body) and a key gathering point for “high society.” Most of the great houses keep an official residence there — either an “apartment” near the Court or a full estate somewhere on the planet. Interstellar businesses and organizations often maintain an “office” in the Court sector or nearby. Member star systems send ambassadors to represent them. Some ambassadors stay only to handle specific matters. Others remain year round. All this acts as a magnet, drawing in others — the super rich, elite influencers, unique and popular entertainers — generally anyone who desires (and can afford) to participate in the elaborate functions, political maneuverings, and intricate business dealings.

Over time, the Court has developed its own unique culture, a modified subset of the Grand Society norms centered around the powerful family houses that direct or influence most of what happens in the Grand Society worlds. And Court culture has grown to include a large variety of elite servitors that manage the numerous and typically disjointed daily activities.
