Kragnuk Mountains

Pronunciation: KRAG-nuk

Map Index: G-4

Location: South central Beorlan

Geography: These low steep sided mountains formed from ancient volcanic deposits and have only sparse vegetation on their flanks. Most low-lying areas remain covered with fine grained ash deposits that originated from the great volcano Krakurod which endlessly erupts great clouds of ash.

Primary Population: Fire Goblin
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: Turoch

Climate: The intense tropical sun causes the land to swelter while little rainfall occurs for long periods of the year.

Wildlife: The flora and fauna of this whole area remains greatly disturbed and heavily impacted by the activities of the fire goblins of Gok Grusmak who take little heed of the destruction their activities often cause. The sparse plant cover in the Kragnuk Mountains consists primarily of drought tolerant plants with deep root systems.

A variety of nocturnal insects, lizards, snakes, and small mammals are the primary wildlife in these desolate mountains. All larger animals have been hunted into local extinction by the hordes of hungry goblins.

Humanoids: The fire goblins of Gok Grusmak dominate the Kragnuk Mountains. With an extensive maze-like tunnel network under these mountains, the goblins have the capability to move throughout these mountains unseen. Outsiders who dare to tread in these lands often find themselves surrounded by a large number of goblins before even being aware of their peril.

Small numbers of Turoch also visit these mountains. Allies of the goblins, companies of Turoch on black horses bring goods for trade but seldom stay for very long.

Monsters: Few monsters still live near areas inhabited by fire goblins. However, farther south a few remote valleys provide a home for a group of Basilisks. With their superior camouflaging abilities, they have managed to evade the goblins. Giant Scorpions also live in a few isolated rocky valleys while Behir inhabit a few of the peaks of these mountains.

History: The area drastically changed at the advent of the Great Cataclysm. In addition to the earthquakes and chaos storms that afflicted other areas, this area suffered cruelly from the great volcano Krakurod which began its first eruption soon after the cataclysm struck.

Today: These mountains remain dangerous and inhospitable. They contain little of value and their fire goblin inhabitants allow no outsiders within their territory.
