Igmarris Island
Pronunciation: igg-MAR-ris
Map Index: G-3
Location: Off the west central coast of Beorlan
Geography: Dominated by 11 low volcanoes, this island began to form during the Great Cataclysm when titanic forces unleashed great volumes of magma from subsurface volcanoes. Within a few short years the volcanoes rose above sea level creating this island. All of the volcanoes are active and erupt every few years. The eruptions occur randomly and mostly for a short duration. The coastline of the island consists of black sand beaches.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: Humid weather dominates the tropical climate. With a warm current offshore, the large amount of tropical moisture generates high rainfall during most of the year. The weather remains hot year-round, and temperatures do not vary much during the year.
Wildlife: The vegetative community on the island remains relatively simple because its age is only a little over a thousand years old. Grasses and short woody plants were primarily introduced to the island by birds which live here in high numbers. A lack of mammalian predators provides them a safe habitat. Pods of whales frequent the waters around Igmarris Island during the winter months
Humanoids: None
Monsters: Lava drakes live in several locations on the island. They readily attack anyone that they view as weaker and easy prey. Salamanders and lava children also pose a danger but because they live in cinder cones and calderas, they are much less likely to be encountered.
History: This relatively new island formed following the Great Cataclysm. Undersea volcanoes erupted massive amounts of lava to form the island. For its first hundred years, the island was practically barren but over time birds introduced seeds and a vegetative community sprang up.
Today: The volcanoes on the island are active and at least one seems to be erupting every few months. This often leaves a haze of volcanic gases over the island.
