On Taking Breaks

Sometimes you really have to step away first before you can succeed at something. Get some distance. Don't feel it the same way when you started working on it.   We used to have a group at work that had all day meetings to work on a large rewriting project. Sometimes we would be up in arms about passages, and everyone thought it meant something different. We would break for lunch, and afterwards when we pulled it up again, "Oh, it absolutely means this, I don't know what we were thinking earlier" and suddenly everyone would understand it.   Distance frequently brings clarity. And so get your first attempt down, your first draft, and move on to something else. It doesn't matter how you feel about that first effort, the point is only that you completed it. You have your framework.   Give it space to breathe, and when you come back after you finished laying the rest of your framework you will knock it out of the park. I know it.
