Pallarian

While the Frozen Landers share much of their history and culture, differences still exist between and even within the various peoples of the many islands. A great example is the culture of the people of Pallar, the northernmost of the three larger islands.

Geographic separation

Pallar is one of the three larger islands in the Frozen Isles, but only the coast is inhabitable. Approximately 85% of its surface is covered by an ice sheet known as Pallar Icy Fields. Because of this the people of Pallar are geographically separated from one another, and the culture of east Pallarians has more in common with the culture of clans from eastern islands than with the culture of west Pallarians. Similarly, the reverse is also true.
However, Pallarians feel a strong kinship with one another based on a single truth: they are the only ones familiar with dangers and the wonders of the Pallar Icy Fields.

Kinship in Cold

The culture shared by all the clans living on Pallar is relatively new, a couple of centuries or so. The feeling of unity amongst the peoples of this single island is mainly a result of increased communication via inland travel. Due to this, Pallarians of various clans discovered other clans suffer from the same things as they do, but are unfamiliar problems to clans from other islands.
Shared struggles include the extreme cold, snow storms, and persistent cold seasons which could potentially lead to death to the whole clan. Other commonalities are ice giants and ice sprites that make the Icy Fields their home, but occasionally visit the world of humanity. It could be argued Pallarians are the hardiest people of all the Isles.

Symbology

While the leaf and fruit of the okaplan shrub is generally seen as a Frozen Lander symbol, the plant only grows on the most southern tip of Pallar where the warm seasons melt almost all the snow. Pallarians instead see ice shards as their cultural symbol.
Interestingly, most Pallarians know natural greenery in the form of mosses and a few grasses and shrubs. Thus, many Pallarians travelling to other islands are surprised by the amount of vibrant green, especially tall green plants such as trees.
