Statement From Lowden County Board of Health Regarding Individuals Quarantined for PNDV-1 Virus

LOWDEN COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER - The PNDV-1 virus, and particular PNDV-1c has been identified in nearly all of the patients admitted after the protests on 2050-9-8. Of the 45 admitted, 4 have succumbed to complications from the virus, 37 are in intensive care, and the remaining are under watch at LCMC. In addition, we are receiving reports from clinics around the county of individuals presenting with symptoms of the virus.   As we had no reports of virus activity before the protests, we believe that the influx of cases is primarily from individuals present at the event or those who had close contact with individuals shortly thereafter. Of concern are two cases in individuals who were not at the event, nor had contact with anyone at the event. This means that they contracted the virus through other means. Vector tracing is underway with the help of the NuvoPharm team to identify possible contacts.   At this time, we are recommending that Lowden County begin pandemic protocols. These include wearing protective masks whenever in public, staying at home as much as possible, and disinfecting any and all items that come into your home. While these protocols may seem onerous, they are in fact the only way that we can ensure that this deadly virus is contained until a vaccine or treatment is developed.
