STATEMENT OF THE PRESTONE COUNTY SUPERVISORS
REGARDING PROPOSED QUARANTINE

It has come to our attention that a field report by a team from NuvoPharm has recommended excessive measures to address an outbreak of PNDV-1 virus in our county. We are firmly opposed to these measures and are currently conferring with county legal counsel as to what measures we can take.
We believe these measures are simply a ploy by NuvoPharm to get information about the virus for their research while keeping that information away from their competitors. By sequestering this information, they gain an unfair competitive advantage, at the expense of our citizenry.
In addition, while there have been some serious illness and deaths from this virus, we believe the sample size is too small to make informed decisions. In a county of nearly 50,000 citizens, a sample size of only 300 cases is small and not indicative of the populace. We have no hard data on the number of individuals infected, and until we do, we are firm in our belief that the proposed measures are more than a step too far. They will harm our county and its residents.
Unless ordered to do so from a higher-level organization, Prestone County will not implement these measures and will fight against them legally.
