2050-10-17 Statement from Prestone County Supervisors

Statement from the Prestone County Board of Supervisors Regarding New Protocols

It is with regret that we must announce the death of Marvin Blackwell, Chairman of the Prestone County Board of Supervisors due to complications from contracting the PNDV-1 virus. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends in this difficult time.   Due to a rapidly increasing infection rate and the overwhelming of our care facilities, we are immediately implementing the measures recommended by the Global Health Council to try to mitigate the spread of the PNDV-1 virus. This is not an action the Board takes lightly. We are cognizant of the rights of our citizens to make their own choices. But at this time, the virus has become so aggressive that unless drastic measures are implemented, our county may literally cease to exist.

The following are measures the Board has approved for immediate implementation:

  • Mask wearing is required by all residents while in public spaces, with the exception of parks or outdoor locations where there is no one within 10 feet.
  • All residents are subject to a stay-at-home order. Residents need to limit their movements and contact with other individuals outside of their households.
  • All businesses are to remain closed with the exception of those that deal with infrastructure. Businesses excluded are gas stations and post offices, among others. A full list of business types can be found on our website.
  • Businesses that do remain open must enforce a 10' separation between all individuals inside a building.
  • Travel outside the county is strictly prohibited. County lines will be enforced by County Police forces, the Global Health Council, and forces from the World Defense Organization. Violators will be charged to the fullest extent of the law, with fines up to $100,000 and up to 5 years jail time per offense.
  • Medical resources are stretched beyond their breaking point. Medical procedures that are considered elective (non-emergent) are to be postponed, and only emergent, acute conditions will receive priority. Calling emergency services for non-emergency situations will result in fines and potential jail time.
  • Currently, supply lines into and out of the county are severely restricted, resulting in shortages of many items. Businesses that remain open are encouraged to limit bulk purchases to stave off runs on supplies. In addition, individuals or businesses found to be price gouging will be charged with the offense and if found guilty will receive a minimum of 1 year in jail for each offense.

  • These measures will be strictly enforced. Lives depend on our being able to limit the spread of this virus. Your cooperation in this trying time is required and appreciated.   Shelley Halliwell
    Acting Chairperson,
    Prestone County Board of Supervisors
