Ren Vinsun

The fortess city of Ren Vinsun controls the southern Wavebreaker Strait and its connection to the rest of the Deep Path Sea. As such, it has been a vital hold of the Kingdom of Karatan's fleet. Even during peace time, the kingdom's ships patrol the seas from Vinsun.

The city itself is a labyrinth of buildings, pavillions, and walls that at some point were used as internal defenses. The larger streets are made for transporting goods and larger wagons. Following them is the best way to not get lost or mugged in an alley, but the crowd moves slow. How easy it is to navigate an area is directly proportional to the amount of trade with outsiders is expected. The wealthy merchant houses and guilds wouldn't stand for trading partners turning away or getting lost in the city, after all.

Parts of the City

Vinsun's Ren is located within Castle Vinsun, north-west of the docks, though the exact location is kept secret. Next to the castle is the Docks district, with its merchant halls and bustle. Inland to the west is the upper-class Tower district, while the rest of the city within the walls make up the Roads district. The Fields district doesn't technically exist, but is the informal name for the area outside the actual walls.

Docks

Along with Castle Vinsun, Docks makes up about a third of the city. If you're looking for something important that the whole city has a need of — you'll likely find it here. In addition, there are enough inns and taverns to keep the myriad of sailors, merchants, and more happy. Those who live within the district must love the bustling activity because the Docks are never quiet.

Tower

While there are towers attached to many of the buildings in the district, it's not the source of the name. There used to be a large watchtower here to guard the city from inland dangers. As Ren Vinsun expanded, fortifications moved but the name for the area stuck. If you ask some of the less priviliged in the city, they'll say the name is to let the rich Tower over the poor. In any case, buildings here are larger and more elegant but with their own walls and sometimes guards. The streets are safer and cleaner.

Roads

The Roads district is named for how it connects the five inland gates to the city. It's also where the majority of the population lives and makes up slightly more than half the city's area. Besides the big streets that has given the district its name, everything here is a sprawl of narrow streets and buildings built at various levels. Non-natives need to pay close attention or they'll quickly get lost. To a native or someone who wishes to explore, the streets have constant surprises — from taverns with good food to shops of curiosities.
