The Chimera Module is the crowning achievement of Landamaeri technology. It's a ship modification that, when installed into a vessel, does a bunch of shit I do not at all understand which in turn allows the captain or other personnel with administrative access to basically change portions of the ship on-the-fly. The changes are near instantaneous, depending on the scale of what you're trying to do, and they're fast enough that they can be done mid-combat to get out of the way of slow-moving projectiles and some other things. It can also be used to repair damaged parts of the hull, though that's not usually useful in combat; since it requires a lot of matter and like, if you just got half your ship blown off, you are not going to have enough matter left over to re-fabricate it.   They're apparently insanely expensive to make, and for that reason they're usually reserved for military vessels and industrial fabrication work. You can technically buy them as a civillian though, but civvie ones usually come with really severe restrictions on what you can make with them; so people don't just create stockpiles upon stockpiles of guns. The one on the Rending Talon was originally a civilian model; but it turns out that they're actually identical to the military versions, and so if you jailbreak them, you can just make whatever you like with them as long as you have the blueprints.   Which, to state the obvious, is in fact severely fucking illegal, and will get you locked up for the rest of your life or put to death; depending on what you did after jailbreaking one. In my case, the answer to that is 'fuck off before Fleetsec could notice'; so I was able to get away without either. The reason more people don't do this is because if I ever show my face back there again and Fleetsec notices, I would probably get charged with terrorism and dragged off to some blacksite, after which... let's not go there. So basically, it's only viable to jailbreak these things if you don't plan on staying in the Mobile Fleet afterwards. Otherwise, they're eventually gonna find out, and when they do, your life is over.
