Tiamalynn Character in Keverynn | World Anvil

Tiamalynn (tee-ah-mah-lin)

Tiamalynn (a.k.a. Tia)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Prior to her bout of Barkskin, Tiamalynn was in excellent shape. She has a high tolerance for heat and is strong from all her time spent in and around the forge.

Identifying Characteristics

Unless she dyes it, her hair is her most distinctive feature.

Special abilities

While technically Gifted, it's of little use to her outside of the forge. Anything she makes is stronger and more durable than things made my her contemporaries.

Apparel & Accessories

In the year 642, she forged a sword for herself. One of her fellow riders insisted that all great swords have to have a name. She thought the idea was stupid, but called it Brightcaller just to get some peace. To her dismay, the name stuck and prompted the creation for four other swords.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Tiamalynn's siathi heritage is clear to anyone with eyes. She appears human except for her strange eye and hair colours. She contemplated dyeing it as a teenager, but it was ultimately too much work to maintain and she hated how bad the dye smelled. As much as her hair annoys her, she appreciates that it makes her unique. Frankly, she'd rather strange hair than the useless wings many siathi half-breeds get.   She was 19 when Tallyore almost literally dropped down on her and declared Tia was her Chosen. She fought the Choice for months. Her parents threatened to never speak to her again if she left to go with the dragon. Though more common than it once was, being Chosen was still viewed in a negative light.   Eventually, Tia caved in, packed her belongings, and left. Tallyore took her to a small village where others like her had made their homes. Soon after, she met Jialarr, the wolfling who would become her best friend.   Tia lived through a time of great change on Keverynn. She was one of the people responsible for the establishment of the five provinces in the year 661. Due to her efforts, the other riders in the newly established Ta’lakivor Province chose her to be the first Azure Dragonlord.   Her years of combat weren't over with that, however. In 729, war broke out between the Dragonlords and the Darkriders, a war that would later be known as the First Darkrider Incursion. She led the The Azure Coterie to victory alongside her allies in Shu’venath Province and Gira’loyis Province. This would be the last time the Dragonlords worked together until the Fourth Darkrider Incursion in 2256.

Employment

Prior to being Chosen, Tia was apprenticed to the local blacksmith. She had a gift for manipulating metal that bordered on magic. Roaming members of the Sisterhood of Sword and Sorcery had her tested, but her Gift wasn't all that strong. She could have walked the Path of the Warrior, but the Sister cautioned her that she didn't have enough Gift to progress far past the rank of Cadet.   That was that as far as Tia was concerned. She carried on, happily learning the intricacies of her craft. Had she not taken a trip to Kimbala with her master, she might never have encountered Tallyore or been Chosen. While there are days she regrets that trip, she loves Tallyore like a sister and wouldn't want to live without her.

Accomplishments & Achievements

After forging Brightcaller, she went on to create the swords known as Earthsong, Dawnbreaker, Dreambinder, and Skyfall. These iconic swords were eventually given to her fellow Dragonlords. In modern times, these swords have become symbolic than functional, hanging on the walls of their respective owners.

Morality & Philosophy

She is vehemently opposed to killing, something that always surprises people. not only has she forged a number of implements designed to kill, she has a high body count to her name.   She has further stated that if it comes down to killing or being killed, she would rather remain living. She remains grateful that she was only ever put into such a position in times of war.

Social

Reign

Tiamalynn ruled as the first Azure Dragonlord from 672 until she retired in 818 due to complications from an outbreak of barkskin. It's widely agreed that if it weren't for Tallyore, the illness would have killed her. As it was, she had difficulty speaking as her face was stiff. Riding her dragon was painful with her stiff joints.    The pair retired to a small cottage outside of Hash-Beneir where Tia eventually passed away. Tallyore lived on a few more months before she, too, passed away.

Contacts & Relations

She was Chosen by a female seqenn named Tallyore in the year 652. Tia was 19 at the time. Tallyore herself was 256 years old, still relatively young for her species.

Family Ties

Tia's mother was a siathi named Poarlthalynn. She commonly went by Alynn. She married a human man named Inraic Mururas. She has no siblings that she knows of. She has cousins among her extended human and siathi families, but she's only met a few and isn't close to any of them.   She hasn't spoken to her parents since leaving with Tallyore. She knew that, as a dragonrider, she would outlive them, but beyond that she doesn't know how or when they died.

Religious Views

She venerates the goddess Aellar, the god of storms, and Theronn, god of the forge. She rarely forgets her prayers and is adamant about celebrating any holidays associated with her gods.

Speech

Tia takes more after her father than her soft-spoken mother. She's often loud and foul-mouthed. If there's a curse word in any of Keverynn's languages, you can be sure she knows it and how to use it.
