Typhan
The cattails of Pedra have been harvested for their fluff for generations. Earth mages, particularly those with an affinity with seeds, are able to separate the various parts of the fluff from seed with even rudimentary tools. The seeds collected are used to expand zones of growth of the water loving plant while the fiber is spun and converted to thread and later cloth.
The cloth made from the cattail plant is known as typhan, a durable and tightly woven fabric that has found common usage in masks of various designs. The weave can be made tight enough to allow for such masks to protect against most bacteria and some viruses and gasses.
While typhan is used for other purposes it is their medical application that has made it a large export from Pedra. Cattail farms becoming more common as synthetic ponds were created to spread their viability as a mass-produced crop. With a growing abundance of the source material typhan has found other uses over the years, from fashion to rope.
The fluff has even undergone a quality rating process which allows for Typhon made from high quality fibers to be sold at a premium to markets such as on Mythos and their colonies as well as to the Lumiz who covet the fabric for its implied rarity. The low-quality fibers, while still viable for weaving, are more often used as insulation.
Typhan can be dyed and is considered an easy fabric for use in sowing. Many Pedrans wear garments that are primarily crafted with typhan as a sign of both their origins as well as in pride of their world's export.
Typhan has been used in trades with enemy nations as well as allies.
The means of production for the fabric was exchanged with the Coalition for access to their star charts that covered the area surrounding the Pedran system.
