Blood-banked Mallee

The blood-banked mallee grows as a shrub no taller than 5m. It has a brown-red wood that is coated in a pale bark. It's wooden stems branch off with leaves at their ends. The leaves are long and green with veins that are red in colour. It produces small, hard, pointy fruit that are inedible, and pompom-like flowers. The flowers bloom in summer before the seeds are carried off by the wind. It grows in arid conditions such as those found in the east of the Keone Desert where it is native. It needs little water and is easy to keep and maintain for a long time, which is most often done so by certain alchemists for it's uses.   The leaves of the plant carry a powerful stimulant that makes a body release it's magical reserves and cause the body's mana pathways to dilate. This means that all the available mana is circulating the body at a much higher rate and volume. Understandably this comes with causing a lot of stress on the body, including increased body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and tension (which in turn can cause affects such as bruising and bleeding from the nose and mouth from burst capillaries). For these side effects it is not often used first choice, at least not by itself, and is instead mixed or brewed with other things or outright avoided.
