Chapter 2: Divergent Action

While travelling the long and winding roads over grassy plains towards their goals in Thornwood, our adventurers are ambushed on night 3 by a group of desperate and hungry Kobolds. After a couple of decisive strikes from the Sage & Noble William Riker, some Gnome trickery by illusionist Ellywick, and a bit of Dag's reckless strong arming, the Kobolds were no more. Luck would have it (in the form of an impossible dice roll), the Kobolds had just raided a group of travelers and had upon them an ancient and very rare magical rod. Dags lack of affinity for magical items led him to give the rod to the magical gnome trickster. After a bit of appraising and attunement, Ellywick found herself the new owner of the powerful Tentacle Rod! Once the sun peaked over the horizon, our adventures continued their way into the city of Thornwood.   Not long after arriving, the group concluded that they should probably rest before going in search of William's "Library", so they headed for the Ambervein Inn. Dags, covered in soot head to toe from some failed attempts to clean ol'Smokey (his club), headed for the baths. Meanwhile, William and Ellywick slipped back out into the city to replenish their rations. A couple of frustrated merchants and failed negotiations later, William broke from Ellywick's side and began his own path into the unknown neighborhoods of Thornwood. Before his journey even really began, he found himself the target of an ambush that left him severly wounded and unable to use his left arm. In an attempt to not go quitely, he made several attempts to call for help despite the enemies attempts to drown out the entire encounter. William's strong spirit and desperate situation finally took hold of him, allowing him to manifest the roar for help heard by half the city, but more specifically, by his new friends Dags and Ellywick.   Ellywick quickly rushed to William, pushing her way through the crowds and chaos, ignoring the racist stares from the human population waiting for her to fail. Upon arrival, she found a beat down and dire William, bleeding his body dry via the wound in his shoulder. She cried for help at the staring masses until finally a doctor stepped forward. He quickly stepped up to William with grave concern for what was to become of this young man. The doctor's four helpers rushed over, picked William up, and began transporting him down the road where Ellywick had just come from. It wasn't till a couple moments later that Ellywick started to realize that something wasn't right, feeling dread and despair creeping in, while the city stares down her little frame in the midnight hour. She rushed to the alleyway for some reprieve but was no closer to feeling safe from this unknown danger.   Meanwhile, after some of Dag's classic charismatic and chaotic ways, he had convinced the residents and employees of the Ambervein Inn that he was in fact a manager there. In the process of helping the young employee out, Dags ran into an older man who was a bit too formal and prestigious for an establishment like this. So Dags took it upon himself to check the man's room out only to discover an interesting note detailing the Ancient Tomb and Ancient Relic Dags knew Ellywick and William to have. Shortly after, William's roar for help pierced the Inn's walls, causing Dags a great deal of concern. Knowing about the Soots odd behavior lately, seeing this interesting note and then hearing William's roar flipped a switch in Dags as he started to put all the individual puzzle pieces together about what is really going on here. Dags then set off to see if he could be of any help to William.   All 3 of our adventurers have found themselves in hairy situations, but can any of them move fast enough to help the rest of the party before William is never seen again? Maybe even before something bad happens to poor little Ellywick stuck in her dark alleyway with a large crowd of Gnome hating humans? Only time will tell!
