Kings Crown

Golden decorations sit at 4 sides of this crown, and a single orange-like translucent gem on top.

History

Leoric ruled the old lands of the Deep Waste. Searching for immortality, he was not ready to let go of this life. He commanded his most trusted enchanter to craft him a crown that would let him live forever.   And so it came to be, that the enchanter found himself in the posession of a crown that had 4 empty sockets. Legends speak of the Vestiges, and that powerful acts will allow these items to grow in power.   The red gem was obtained by a large amount of fire damage, dealth to a large number of people. The green gem by selflesly choosing, over the faith of others. The black gem by killing a person, with bare hands. The blue gem by ruling fairly over a difficult choice.   Upon the fourth gem appearing, the crown reached its full protential. It had gained the ability to absorb more damage and deal more damage with each new gem it gathered.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

It has 4 charges and regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. When the wearer is targeted by an enemy’s spell, they can use their reaction to have the crown swallow part of the spell. The crown gains a number of charges equal to the spell level of the triggering spell. The wearer is still subject to whatever effects the spell would normally inflict on them. The ability cannot be used again until they finish a long rest.   When the wearer hits with an attack or spell, they can choose to expend any number of charges from the crown, dealing an additional 1d6 lightning damage per charge expended, which is inflicted on the target of that attack. If the attack strikes multiple targets, the wearer must choose one target from the group to be subject to this damage.
Raw materials & Components
A golden crown that is not affected by wear and tear, nor is affected by time. It is unscratched despite everything.
