The Guilded Kettle

A not-so-disguised nod to the mineral wealth below Raman, the Gilded Kettle has served the people of that city for several generations. The large tavern is close to several mine entrances and is an easy walk for a miner going home after their shift underground. Though several taverns cater to the miners, The Gilded Kettle is probably the busiest and is notable for other reasons.   The Gilded Kettle’s current owner, Uvada Sileyn, spent most of her life as a freeblade. She roamed the world looking for fame, gold, and adventure. It is rumored that she found all three in abundance. Time eventually took its toll on Uvada, and she was forced to turn to something other than selling her sword to make a living. She settled in Raman and purchased the Gilded Kettle with money she had spent years saving.   Uvada became something of a local celebrity, not to mention she was already well known among those who chose the mercenary's life. Soon it was not only miners that frequented her tavern. Freeblades began congregating there as well, anxious to hear the stories of Uvada Sileyn.   The Gilded Kettle soon became a place where freeblades could also find jobs. For Uvada, it seemed that her life had come full circle. Once, she frequented locations like the Gilded Kettle, looking for work. Now, she ran the place. Any warrants given by locals were listed there, and sometimes requests for Freeblades came from farther away as her tavern became more well known.   While there are undoubtedly other places a freeblade could find work in Raman, The Gilded Kettle is the best known and by far the most reputable. Most would-be patrons know that if they want freebands that will get the job done, they need look no further than the Gilded Kettle.   The Gilded Kettle is a three-story building made with hewed stone that has darkened and pitted with age. The slate grey stones are topped with a wooden shingle roof and take up an entire square block of the city in its mining quarter. It boasts a vast great room where people gather at all hours of the day. Uvada never closes the great room as the mines never close except on Varanic holidays.   There are several areas of the great room that Uvada keeps empty so small parties can have some privacy, primarily when negotiating warrants or recruiting Freeblades. They are away from the bar, the large roaring fire that never stops burning, and the small stage with the highest caliber performers on them—many of the Patrons that grace The Gilded Kettle like their anonymity.   The rooms at the Kettle run the gamut, from a little better than a horse stall to spacious and accommodating. Most of the miners that grace the large wooden doors of The Gilded Kettle are just there for food and copious amounts of ale. Those seeking rooms are either travelers who followed the wafting smell of warm food and the sound of merriment from the streets or freeblades between jobs.
