At the beginning of time the Gaal, or “gods,” sundered magic into two types, Spirit and Energy. They did this to prevent mortals from acquiring too much power. They have made the two types of magic difficult to combine, and when they are both employed in the same area, the fabric of reality is stretched ever so slightly, with unpredictable results.
