Karadal looks out over the War Plain, the perennial battleground between the Haradel and Falkaar. This no-man’s land is continually contested by the two nations. Karadal’s sacred charge is to guard and contest this land, and Haran Baros has continually been one of the most successful Barons in Falkaar’s history at assuring the Queen’s claims to this land are backed up with force. Haran’s success lies as much on his tactics during peace as it does during war. Not content to harry his enemies during the normal springtime campaigns, Haran has prosecuted a war of constant harassment against the border towns and lands of Haradel and incursions from the tribes of the Urdaggar. Choosing his best officers and warriors to lead small Freebands into the War Plain and beyond and weaken those forces he finds there in any and every way possible, Haran has become master of the battlefield through a constant series of attacks at every point along the border. In Haradel's case, this tires and weakens their border troops and keeps The Warden of Arsmouth on a constant war footing-a very costly and unpopular state of affairs for both the Warden and King Mundar. Haran Baros has no time for niceties and will do everything he can during peace to weaken the enemy’s ability to prosecute war. He spends his Barony’s money quickly and extravagantly, which forces him to tax his subjects highly. Most of his money goes to bounties that he pays his troops for their endeavors in the field - Urdaggar kills are rewarded as is any disruption that the Freebands he employs cause to his more civilized rivals. Haran is known for his quick temper and his ferociously overzealous reactions. His tactics are undeniably working though, so his outbursts at court and against his fellow nobles are tolerated to a large extent. In his mind, there is a long-standing feud between himself and the Baron of Jendal, caused by some slight to his martial prowess when both were in their much younger years. Haran has never challenged his fellow Baron directly over the slight, knowing that the Blade Lord could kill him in moments. Instead, he wages a war of words and insults against the honor of his neighbor, reminding him constantly that his lands are kept safe by the constant sacrifice of the people of Karadal.
