Drakohal Profession in Faelon | World Anvil

Drakohal

As with so many things, the Trilians claim to be the first to have hunted demons. Sages across Faelon consider this unlikely, but as Trilian origins are so shrouded in mystery, who can say?   Whether or not the first, no one argues their effectiveness. The Mirindel (Tr. gate-closers) have earned a well-deserved reputation as the most relentless and thorough of Faelon’s demon-hunting organizations. Of the Mirindel, the Drakohal has earned a reputation as an expert slayer of demons. In fact, the leaders of the Mirindel rings, Drathaness, are often experienced and trusted Drakohal.   Demon incursions into the Reach are inevitably well-contained and short-lived. In fact, Mirindel are often on the scene so quickly that outsiders suppose they possess some method of predicting the arrival of a gate and its issue.   Outsiders also suppose that the Deepwood is either the best or worst place for a Darkgrove incursion. Given its tremendous size and density, it might be the most desirable place for Darkgrove demons to enter Faelon and set up camp. Given the ferocity with which the Trilians protect their central home, and their profound connection to it, it might be instantly deadly. It has not gone unnoticed, however, that Mirindel rings are far more effective battling Karyads than they are Azalakar...   By and large, when foreigners chance upon Mirindel, it is in the Reach. They are standoffish, even by Trilian standards, and stay on task. When they encounter other hunters, they are eager to swap information about their trade, although it’s likely the Mirindel benefit far more from these exchanges than the other group.   Where they go when their task is complete and where they are trained is unknown to the outside, but sages agree it is almost certain to be inside the Deepwood.   Drakohals are warriors specially trained to pin foes down and prevent their easy repositioning or escape. They are trained to engage any enemy around them, protecting other more vulnerable members of the Mirindel.   Mirindel know that a demon they let get away today will likely be one terrorizing them tomorrow. Drakohal form the cordon against which the rest of the band herds the enemy, making sure none escape.   For the Trilians, a demon incursion, especially a Darkgrove, isn’t some existential threat or a matter of ideology - it is a matter of survival. The Foxwood is an enchanted place, and any demon allowed to exist within it is a threat to their home.
