Dark Vengeance Scenario 4 - Desperate Times, Desperate Measures

Desperate Times, Desperate Measures   No matter how far ahead of the Black Knight you think you are, they always seem to surprise you.   Your trip to Karolis proved fruitful; everyone had heard rumors of the Black Knight and their escapades. The stories were flowing like ale at the Sleeping Grush. You have so many tales and leads that it's hard to know where to begin.   Your freeband decides to pull up a chair at the Bored Raven and lubricate their critical thinking with some local beer and maybe a trencher of hot food. The evening quickly devolves into merriment and relaxation. Perhaps the problem of where to find the Black Knight can wait another day…   And then the door opens. A group of mercenaries enters, tattered and broken. They find a corner and hide in it.   The rumors start almost immediately. There’s been another sighting. The Freeband was accompanying a noble out of Altanos when they were attacked. They survived, but only after two of their number had been cut down without mercy by a knight wearing strange black armor and wielding a magical sword.   They very wisely gave up their fight and surrendered. The Knight seemed to be looking for something and, not finding it, disappeared as quickly as they had attacked.   Several at the Bored Raven try to approach the men and women of the freeband, but they are not allowed through to them. The whole place devolves into chaos, and the owner, Hemrik, bounces the entire house into the streets.   In the rush to get back to their camps and rooms, you witness a member of a rival freeband exchange a few words with one of the members of the attacked freeband. They both disappear into the crowd exiting the tavern.   What was said? Do your rivals now know something that you don’t?   You can’t allow them to get to the Black Knight before you do. It may be time to visit the rival freeband and beat some information out of them. Your freeband decides to follow them, and they lead you back to a camp so far out that it must be in the Reach.   You don’t believe you’ve been seen, but it's getting late, and the intelligent thing is to pitch camp for the night and get a little rest.   In the morning, you will strike.   Scenario Four Camp Raid
