Tyros
The city of Tyros dates back to the earliest days of the Golden Age and, some claim, may even be built upon ruins of a yet older city from the Time of Nyx.
The Leontes River runs nearby, and numerous springs pop up close to the city.
The city lies upon the Thalassa Sea and is bifurcated by the sea, with part lying upon a small island, part upon the mainland of Phoenikia. An arching causeway connects the island to the mainland.
Only the mainland portion is walled, and one must pass through a gate when crossing the causeway in order to enter the main city.
History
The exact history of the founding of Tyros has vanished into the mists of time, but legend claims the first king named it after his mermaid lover, Tyros.
In her wanderings, Io came to Tyros, pregnant with Zeus's child in 1358 SA. The child, Epaphus, would grow up to ascend to claim the throne of Tyros, and his descendants have ruled ever since.
Inspiration
Tyros is an old Greek name for Tyre.
