Iolkos
As the only significant polis in Phlegra, Iolkos represents the source of all trade and political power in the land.
The polis lies at the foot of the hills of Phlegra, upon the Axeinos Strait. As a consequence of its location, its serves as a gateway between Elládos and Phrygia, Kimmeria, and Kolchis.
The palace and Temple of Ares lies upon the arcopolis, which itself sits on a low plateau north of the rest of the city. The forum spreads out below the acropolis. Unlike poleis of Elládos, no wall protects Iolkos.
History
As most settlements in Phlegra were razed during the Titanomachy, Iolkos was founded by mortals early in the Silver Age. In 277 SA, Ares claimed the polis as his own in a brutal campaign that lasted for three days and ended with the people declaring him their god.
