Aiaíā Geographic Location in Eschaton Cycle | World Anvil

Aiaíā

Aiaíā is an island off the coast of Phoenikia. It is sparsely populated, used primarily by Helios's children as a private retreat. Its location would make a useful strategic foothold for numerous naval powers, and thus respect for Helios alone keeps anyone from claiming the island.   The island is ruled by Helios's sister Eos, on his behalf.

Geography

Two mountain ranges compose the better part of the island, a large range in the southwest, and a smaller range that rims the northern shore. The southern range reaches heights of over six thousand feet, while the northern range reaches up to 3000 feet. Because of the frame they create, access to Aiaíā from the north is limited to a narrow corridor.   Dense forest covers the southern half of the island, while the northern points are rough, rocky lands. Between the two, on the eastern shore, lies Helios's palatial estate. Around this estate lies a central plain nestled between the two mountain ranges. The Pithkias river runs through the central plain.

Inspiration

The island Aiaíā comes from The Odyssey and is implied to exist somewhere near Italy. I, however, modeled the actual island after Cyprus.
