If you target a creature and touch it throughout the casting, you learn one ongoing spell, if any, that is currently affecting it. 

If you target an object and touch it throughout the casting, you learn at least one aspect of the items nature, from the following list, chosen by the DM:

• Its mundane properties
• One or more magical properties of the item
• Whether it requires Attunement
• How many charges it has
• All ongoing spells that are affecting the item
• The spell that created the item

Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. For each spell slot level above 1, one additional ongoing spell (if targeting a creature), or one additional aspect (if targeting an item) is revealed to you. Additionally, a spell slot level of 2+ is required to identify objects of Rare Tooltip Not Found, 4+ for Very Rare, 6+ for Legendary, and 8+ for Artifact.
