Marun Settlement in Emore | World Anvil

Marun (marun)

Marun is a recent settlment within the Vallence Rights of Nylan. It is on the south western border of the nation which is considered by many to be on the borders of the known world as the southern region of Stanos, which has been named Farland, is known for being unwanted by each nation after the end of The Great War.   While there are no official reports on what is in Farland, many within Arcanum Noctus have theorized that it contains a powerful ancient source of Magik which predates the origin that is typically associated with the force. It is my own opinion that the founding of Marun is dedicated to researching and understanding this region as a possible source of further understanding of the modern realm.   There are not many residents within the settlment of Marun. In fact, if reports are to be correct there aren't any permanent settlements and abodes within the location. Instead the village primarily comprises of a more permanent campsite rather than a settlement. Unfortunately the accuracy of these claims cannot be verified as our Wardens and Collectives have not had a reason to go visit the region.
Founded more recently than many others, Marun seems to be a source of great concern for many, with many valid reasons...

Points of Interest

Once again, there are very limited reports, however from what is known, these are some prominent locations that have caused members to take note.

The Eye of Velan

Reported to be a well, the Eve of Velan has appeared in several dreams that magikal members of Arcanum have mentioned. It seems to have a deep and dark basin that seemed to have a strange and powerful whispering that emanates out into the ears of each person.

The Veiled Web

Strangely, this seems to be a reference to the border of the settlement which is said to have a strange web-like fabric that leads further south. On the edge of this 'web' there is allegedly a small hut that houses an ancient advisor of the Marquis. From one report, it is said that they have become a spider respinning the web. Which cannot be true, can it?

The Curled Post

Said to be the most prominent and permanent of the buildings, the Curled post is a town hall of sorts, while also acting as a public house and inn for those who arrive in the town. It is said to be run by a trio who live and reside within the Curled Post as its owners.

Reveller's Fold

Another important location on the edge of the settlment is known as the Reveller's Fold. This acts as another barrier into the region of the Farlands, however, this particular barrier alledges strange magical properties that are said to have killed the last person who attempted to walk through it.

History

There isn't much to discuss in terms of history as most of the information remains unknown currently from the perspective of Arcanum Noctus. Yet there are other things that can be taken into account, particularly when looking at the greater context of the region and the mission of the nation's government.   The Nylan government have always had an extreme interest in the ideas of particularly Magik as they were able to utilise the force within the Second Great War. This combined with the theorization that Magik exists or is enhanced within the region of Farlands makes for a great point around the Nylan government placing a settlment that far south with the intention of learning more about the region and how it influences Magik and its users.   Within the region of Vallence RIghts, they are lead by Marquis Ara Malison. Marquis Malison, according to all reports, has a intense lust for obtaining access to more magikal and ancient artifacts, particularly from the Wild Years. It is said that she sent a whole bunch of archeologists into the Farlands to obtain as many artifacts as possible with the intention of gathering them before any other. Many believe this is why she helped personally to found Marun, with many theorizing that its position is purely to further her own agenda.   Additionally, there are said to be many people, particularly possessing Magik, who have started to migrate towards the settlement of Marun. No one is aware of the reasoning why, but even people from as far as Highfront have been drawn to the location for the same unknown reason. A member of Arcanum was stated as having dreams a calming forest that they recognised as their childhood home covered in ivy and vines with a map lining one of the walls. When this member learned of the location of Marun, they noted that in their dream, the point was marked on a map by a singular vine which pointed towards it.

I am afraid that there isn't much more that I can provide in terms of information as it simply isn't avaliable at this time. Once I receieve it, you shall too.

What an interesting settlement. I wonder what the Wardens would discover if they visited there.
