The Lantyr System

Discovering our place in the cosmos is the dream of many, and few contributed more to this goal than the Dwarf hold of Orldhatun. While the dwarven hold may be long gone, many across the world have risen to the challenge of taking up that mantle, and while our modern telescopes still pale in comparison to the Dwarven Setzunkupa, many discoveries have, and will still be made. The Feiten-Legion collaborative Spelljammer program is of particular interest in this regard, heralding our first - or second, if you believe the tales - foray into space.

Lantyr is the name of the system that houses the planet of Elaienna itself; full of myriad distinct worlds and spatial features that Elaiennans have been studying with telescopes and observatories for decades, its wonders have remained beyond mortal grasps since the Hysilens, who are believed to be the only race who got to explore them.   Until now. Feiten's collaborative Spelljammer - alongside the United Legions - program has seen significant progress in short time, and while it still has quite some time to go, it's the first time since the theorized Dwarf Obsidian Skyship that the people of Elaienna will be able to pierce the firmament and tackle the space around their homeworld, venturing out into the reaches of the Lantyr system itself.

A Dense Solar Neighbourhood

Lantyr is a very big solar system, comprised of thirteen planetary bodies, over 80 moons, two major asteroid belts - a mineral asteroid belt in the mid-system and an icy asteroid belt in the far reaches of the system - and even a solar nebula once known as the Aldrin Passage, now known as the Chaos Nebula.   The worlds of Lantyr are varied and will all be briefly explained below; keep in mind however, that all knowledge is from the perspective of knowledge known to the setting, which has predominantly come from the Dwarf hold of Orldhatun and the Setzunkupa. This means there will be holes in the knowledge of each celestial body, and the further out the planets and moons are from Elaienna, the less detail is present.

Lantyr

The source of light for the entire system, Lantyr is the central star, and is the body most well known about besides Elaienna itself. Orldhatun recorded Lantyr to be a class G star with fairly mundane qualities as far as they were concerned; solar flares happen with some regularity and the star otherwise shows normal patterns of activity.   Where things got interesting, however, was Orldhatun's records pertaining to strange structures near Lantyr's surface; the Dwarf astronomers were never able to make any positive identifications as to their nature, but their presence is cause for intrigue. As such, one of the first tasks in the joint Feiten-Legion Spelljammer program is the deployment of observational equipment that can study these structures from space, and to this end the Fique managed to recruit one of the last dwarven astronomers from that ill-fated hold, who never came down with corruption.

Cutera

Believed to be highly volcanic, Cutera is a world with 3 separate moons - Secunda, Aetis, and Laetis - orbiting it. Cutera seems to lack any sort of atmosphere from basic studies by the Dwarves, and varies from the closest planet to Lantyr to being as far out as Iyama, while orbiting on an inclined track.   Beyond that, little is known about Cutera, as it frequently sits beyond even the Setzunkupa's range for studies, leaving mere conjecture and guesses about its nature. One theory posited by the Dwarves is that, due to its orbital inclination and eccentricity, Cutera isn't a planet native to Lantyr at all, and instead it arrived at some point in the past, which would imply it had to pass through the Chaos Nebula.

Ulvomia

Ulvomia is a very large volcanic world located between Elaienna and Lantyr. Its most traits are its vast asteroid-laden planetary rings, within the middle of which lingers its solitary moon, Iehiri. Ulvomia is one of the more interesting planets, as it is close enough to Elaienna to have been studied long before the Setzunkupa's development, and is believed to have a storied history that included it housing the elemental realm of fire beneath its volcanic surface.   This is a theory that has never really faded, but one thing remains certain: Ulvomia in its current state appears to be rather inhospitable to life, the dwarves figured that much out at least.

Elaienna

The home of all of the mortal races, Elaienna is the most well-known planet of the Lantyr system, being as everyone lives on her surface. The world orbits within the ideal habitation zone of Lantyr and sports an oxygenated atmosphere, liquid water and Earthlike characteristics to its geography and biosphere.   Elaienna has two moons, both with atmospheres. Masser is the largest moon, and has ever taunted the denizens with its appearance of being just as idyllic and inhabitable as Elaienna - complete with water, continents and whatnot - while Bastet, sometimes referred to as the Manabloom Moon, is a rocky moon, a mixture of blues and purples smattering its surface through the veneer of its atmosphere. Many believe that Bastet is replete with Aether of all types, and may even house bounteous reserves of Crysium Shards for harvesting, and as such it's emerged as a primary target for the joint Feiten-Legion Spelljammer program's first voyage.

Alnora & Olmuna

Initially confused for a single planet, Alnora and Olmuna are a binary planetary pair, the physics of which have eluded Elaiennan observers for decades. Nobody knows how they maintain their stable orbit, and when the Setzunkupa discovered their binary nature, the dwarves made a point of returning to study the planetary pair every few months and years to verify the state of them - and sure enough, they were always orbiting stably together, seemingly around a point between them.   Alnora is the bigger of the pair - if only marginally - and is most visually distinctive for the highly inclined planetary ring that it possesses, and both possess an atmosphere, with Alnora looking to possess small oceans and lakes of water if the studies of the Setzunkupa are to be believed, while Olmuna looks more desolate and barren.

Iyama

Iyama is a desolate rocky world, believed by the dwarves to be very mineral rich - potentially bountiful in Mithril and Adamantine in particular - and accompanied by a small, similarly rocky moon known as Bizolara. It's a relatively boring planet as it stands, with few true drawing factors, so much so that it's most 'famous' quality is that it orbits as the final of the inner planets, the Eturn Asteroid Belt separating the inner planets from the middle system planets.   Still, its mineral-rich nature has promoted it as an interesting exploration option for Spelljammer technologies if the tech can prove itself in closer-scale travel, and provided that the lack of an atmosphere can be dealt with.

Eturn Asteroid Belt

The Eturn Asteroid Belt is a large region of asteroids that orbits between Iyama and Elvuna, and separates the inner system from the rest of the solar system. Little is known of the Eturn Belt, as its asteroids are difficult to accurately track with the level of technology available to Elaienna's societies - even the Setzunkupa proved little value in that regard - and all appear to blend together when it comes to tracking them, making it a well known, but not well known about region of space.

Elvuna

Elvuna is quite an interesting planet indeed, and the Dwarf astronomers that first observed it with the Setzunkupa were... rather surprised, to say the least. The world is located on the far side of the Eturn Belt, and should by all metrics be far beyond the habitable zone of Lantyr, yet it possesses a proper atmosphere, continental landmasses and liquid on its surface, making it seem like it could harbour life.   Beyond that, the planet also has a small planetary ring system, and a colossal - for a standard planet - total of 9 moons, referred to as Regrone, Sautis, Citune, Cusides, Ingosie, Zivetera, Sainia, Hethea, and Vetala. It's possible it may even have more than that, but the Setzunkupa was unable to observe any more than 9 distinct moons during its operation, and Elvuna is too far from Elaienna to see with any other telescopes.

Vinea

Another curiosity, Vinea doesn't appear to rotate as it orbits, with the dwarves referring to it as rotationally locked. This is curious on its own, but the other various aspects of its planetary system are even more curious; the world has an enormous planetary ring system - easily the biggest of the standard planets - as well as 3 distinct moons, known as Hasiea, Taniea, and Saniea. Beyond that, the Setzunkupa produced observations hinting that its twilight zone - and potentially its dark side - experience volcanic activity.   Perhaps most curiously, however, is something the Setzunkupa observed that wasn't intrinsic to the planet itself; it saw specks of light around Vinea and within its ring system. It lacked the fidelity to ever identify these specks of light and is no longer in operation, but it's spurred even more curiosity about the world.

Sozuno

Sozuno is the largest of Lantyr's pair of gas giants. A roiling mass of gasses and potentially, Aether, Sozuno lacks any rings like what Sarnus has, but is believed to have a truly mindboggling estimated 36 moons - none of which have been named as of yet. As stated, the Dwarf studies suggest that Sozuno's gaseous clouds naturally permeate Aether across them, making it one of the few natural founts of Aether that is known of.

Sarnus

Sarnus is the second of Lantyr's gas giants. While it's smaller - though not by much - than Sozuno, it has the largest ring system of any planet in the Lantyr system by a considerable margin, and - like Sozuno - is believed to have a monumental estimated 30 moons - and, like with Sozuno's moons, none of these have been named yet.   Sarnus is notable for being the final of the middle system planets, with the planets beyond its orbit being the outer planets.

Isothia

Isothia is the first of Lantyr's outer planets, and, not to be outdone, is by far one of the weirdest discoveries made the Dwarf astronomers of Orldhatun, and one that precious little is known about due to its range. The Setzunkupa is powerful enough to have made some interesting discoveries though:   The planet appears to possess liquid water, in spite of its distance from Lantyr, while also having a reasonable - if small - planetary ring system and a general hue of its atmosphere being blue and purple. A popular Dwarven theory made before the fall of Orldhatun was that it's a psionically-attuned world of some sort, and it draws on magic to keep liquid water, but nobody knows for sure.

Izumo

Little is known of Izumo; it's believed to have a large moon known as Asoth around it, but its an extremely remote planet, on an elliptical orbit that has it swap with Cenotaph for the title of the most remote world for a small part of its orbit - a part of the orbit that takes it through the Chaos Belt. Otherwise, however, it's completely unremarkable from the extreme distances, and appears to be entirely frozen over.   Like Cenotaph, it might be somewhat subjected to Chaos Corruption, though likely not as much as Cenotaph, as it only spends a small portion of its orbit in the Chaos Belt.

Cenotaph

Cenotaph is the furthest planet from Lantyr - at least, almost all of the time - and is a world that straddles the Chaos Belt for its entire orbit. Cenotaph itself is little more than an icy ball of rock in space that is believed to be remarkably unremarkable, aside from its likely state of capturing comets from the Chaos Belt.   Where it gets interesting, though, is that the dwarves believe the planet is likely to be at least marginally corrupted by Chaos owing to its presence to the chaos belt. Of course, this cannot be proven, but it's an interesting theory.

The Chaos Belt

The Chaos Belt is a dense belt of icy and metallic asteroids located in the far reaches of the system, stretching from the boundary of Cenotaph's orbit all the way to the boundaries of the Chaos Nebula itself. The belt is believed to be thoroughly tainted by the energy of Chaos, with many believing that Shardtouched creatures reside within the belt's incomprehensibly vast quantity of asteroids.   Still, little is truly known of the belt itself, as it is too remote and full of objects too small for even the Setzunkupa to have observed during its working years.

The Chaos Nebula

The Chaos Nebula, formerly known as the Aldrin Passage, is a huge solar nebula that encases and surrounds Lantyr for an incomprehensible distance. Nobody knows its size, nor its true nature, but the Setzunkupa observed roiling masses of Aspected Aether and Chaos Corruption in the nebula during its studies, leading to the popular - and now universally accepted - theory of the Chaos Nebula being the root of all evil on Elaienna.   It's also believed that the upper realms are located deep within the Chaos Nebula, their denizens working tirelessly to fight back against the force of the Chaos Nebula to prevent its influence from running amuck and overwhelming the Lantyr system, and beyond.
