Battle Beasts

Many Beast Keepers enter their warrior pets into the arena, but only one may be the Prime Beast Keeper.

Created by Monster Cabin Studios, Battle Beasts is a trading card game played on a vertical hexagonal grid with dice and tokens. Each player is known as a Beast Keeper. At the beginning of each game, players have 2 decks of cards; the Pack and the Inventory, collectively known as the Den. The Pack is a deck of Beast Cards, the Inventory is a deck of Item and Spell cards. Each player also begins the game with 10 hit points. To win and to be crowned the Alpha of the match, the players must reduce their opponents' hit points to 0 or below.

Gameplay

Building the Den

A large part of Battle Beasts is what happens out of battles. Before Beast Keepers are to compete, they must first collect the cards and tokens to build their Den. Beast Keepers may either purchase new cards or trade with other Beast Keepers. Monster Cabin Studios has published the Battle Beasts Rulebook where Rookie Beast Keepers can learn how to build a Den and Battle in the Arena.

Technology

Holotables

Traditionally, the Cards, Tokens and the board are physical objects made of paper, plastic, wood or metal. However, many arcades across Eco One provide special tables which project holographic images of the Battles. Upon each card is a patterned code, which the table reads and projects a 3D animated image of the Beast, Item and Spell. The Holotables are the most popular form to play Battle Beasts, as it is also how the Battle Beast League displays their Battles, but in a grander scale.

Dream Reality

Using the newly created technology of Dream Reality, Reality Games (a.k.a. Verklighetsspel) are developing a Dream Reality (DR) port of Battle Beasts. Battle Beasts DR, allows players to experience the full reality of becoming a Beast Keeper and to take command of their Beasts in a fully simulated environment.

Reception

Battle Beasts has been a popular game, ever since before Launch Day. Throughout Eco City there are social groups, tournaments and even a professional league. Residents of all ages compete to become the Prime Beast Keeper.

The Battle Beasts League

The Battle Beasts League (BBL) is the professional tournament for Battle Beasts. Throughout the entirety of Eco One Beast Keepers compete to be crowned champion and become the Prime Alpha. The BBL is divided into separate sub-leagues; Rookie, Omega, Gamma, Delta, Beta, Alpha. Beast Keepers must progress through each league respectively. All Beast Keepers must begin in the Rookie league as a Rookie. Winning the Rookie league grants the Beast Keeper the title of Omega, and are then progressed into the Omega League, where they'll compete with other Omega Beast Keepers to become Gamma. This pattern of progression continues until they reach the Alpha League, where the champion becomes the Prime Beast Keeper.

The League Format

Each league consists of a Set of Battles, which are structured in a Tournament Tree. Each set consists of 16 Beast Keepers, forming 4 Phases of each set. Winners of each phase progress to the next phase until they reach the final 4th set. Losers of the 1st phase are relegated, the winners of the 4th phase are promoted; the rest stay in the same league for the next season. The Alpha league is a 1 Set league of 16 Alpha Beast Keepers. The winner of the 4th Phase of the Alpha League, also known as the Prime Final; is crowned as the Prime Beast Keeper of the season.   The 8 losers of the 1st Phase of the Alpha League lose their Alpha status and are therefore relegated to the Beta League. This means the Beta League consists of 8 Sets, each with 16 Beta Beast Keepers, making a grand total of 128 Beta Beast Keepers. The winners of these sets are granted the Alpha status, and are therefore promoted to the Alpha League.
