Deevos Condition in Dimday Red | World Anvil

Deevos

Deevos are ape-looking humans, found exclusively in the lower Castes, as people belonging to the higher Castes exhibiting such mutation signs are either exiled or put to death.
Their mutation rapidly reverses their genetic evolution, causing their physiology to resemble that of their primate ancestors. As their appearance changes, their facial features transform into ape-like ones, their muscles get bigger and stronger, and hair grows all over their bodies.
Deevos develop senses usually found in animals, such as sensitive smell, extraordinary hearing, and inhuman strength. In later stages of their mutation, they can communicate with other wildlife. Eventually, their animal nature takes over their human conscience and they lose themselves to their instincts.   Many Deevos are naturalists, seeking a connection with the earth. They honor Mother Gaia, believing that since humanity ravaged and destroyed the Old World, She is leading them to the only natural consequence, the eradication of humankind.   However, they have made peace with their imminent demise, and they focus on preserving what is left of their natural environment. They usually live in small groups consisting of their own kind. They meditate often, seeking a connection with Mother Gaia.   As their mutation progresses, the heat does not affect them as much. Although they lead a peaceful life, if provoked, they unleash feral attacks that can devastate their opponents.
