Session 8: To the Tower Report

Report by Campaign GM Shiftrex

General Summary

The party spent some time in Stronghold sorting out the aftermath of the attack during the night. Craea returned from her scouting mission, where she followed the gang leader back to the Splintered Bone Inn to regroup with the party. From here the group tracked down the blood trail of the gang member that had been thrown throw the second-story window during the fight. This trail led to a manhole cover only a few blocks away, the iron lid not even properly pulled back over the opening and with a little protesting from Kya the party descended into the sewers once more. With only a little searching the body of the thug was found floating in knee-high sewage, with little else but his weapon and a small sum of gold likely the payment for the attack during the night but Craea searched the sewer for a sign of what he may have been headed to. A message in Thieve's Cant was carved into the wall that indicated the presence of a "Storeroom" which the party wasted no time in searching out.   They found what looked like a sealed up doorway that should lead to another branch of the sewers and a small slit to the side of it along the stone framework. After a few attempts at puzzling over the mechanism Iceworn took an implement from Craea's Thieve's Tool and pressed it into the perfect spot of the mechanism to open the door. Inside they found a large amount of general adventuring supplies that they happily hoarded along with a box of stolen magical items, intended to be smuggled outside of the city which they promptly opened and examined. Among these several items was a set of magical gambling dice and an argument broke out between Craea and Iceworn over who should use them, this led to Reinyss amending the rules of the group when they returned to the Inn later to specify that arguments over loot should not take place in knee-high shit.   The next topic to address was the young boy that they rescued from the cultist's recruiting lair. The boy had settled down over the few weeks that he spent with the party and seemed ready to talk but was uneasy around members of the group that were more human in appearance. Surprisingly the boy seemed more open to talking with the less human-looking members of the group, Squall, for instance, found no trouble in learning that his name was Arthur. A select group of the party decided to return the boy home: Squall, Patch and Iceworn walked the boy home and allowed him to lead the way while Syndra and Kya hung back to watch over the group more closely as the child led them to the rich district near Castle Nightbreeze. Here the group approached a house that was guarded by knights wearing a red-tinted armor, full enclosed plate made it difficult for them to identify them as Dragonborn at first. The child was recognized and the master of the house was summoned, a Red Dragonborn that was both gracious and friendly to the party that inquired of the nature of the boy's finding, capture, and identification of the cult so that he could have a personal hand in resolving the matter. The party received 1,000 gold as a reward for finding his nephew and was offered additional rewards for any other information should it become available, they were told that they need only ask to see the head of the Fellfang household and they would be admitted.   After this, the group moved off to the Starlit Tower to get the spell casting focus that they found in the Catacombs identified. They met with a rather impatient Halfling that ran the front desk of the tower that hurried them away after sending the artifact off to be identified. The party perused some of the rooms where independent study was taking place on a variety of magical topics and then returned to the desk to receive the verdict on the magical artifact. It was revealed to be a cursed item, a spellcasting focus used for a special type of necromancer spell that would split a living being into types of undead: a shadow, a zombie and a ghost. Instead of disposing of this item Iceworn kept it and wrapped it safely so that none would touch it or fall victim to the curse of using it. After this, they enquired of a job they heard about from their group's bard, Sarie, that dealt with the extermination of Bogarts within the tower.
