Session 10: Dungeon of the Tower Report

Report by Campaign GM Shiftrex

General Summary

The party continued on after their short respite. They uncovered the passageway that led to another level of the basement and nearly fell into a trap, three steps covered in glue and the next ten covered in Oil of Slipperiness. With a small amount of the Solvent, they had found earlier the steps were easily cleaned but they moved on with only two left and a knowledge that these creatures liked to use Sovereign Glue in their mischief. The group moved cautiously through the rest of the basement, using the Scrying Orb to check behind doors and avoid further ambushes as they moved through more storerooms. Their luck continued to hold even when they entered a large examination chamber with a bubbling cauldron in the center. Three of the party went up to examine the contents while the Paladin and the Ranger hung back at the entrance of the room.   Upon examining the substance the Cauldron was tipped over, releasing a blast of air that threw two party members back into the wall of the examination room that was covered in Sovereign Glue. They dispatched the bogart that sprung the trap on them and continued on to another room that resembled a forge with an ample storage of Flare Steel and Zap Steel that had been shaped into five-pound bars. While looking around the room the party happened upon a small Fey creature that had been hiding quite well, a Brownie that explained he was unable to combat the large amount of Bogarts. After a short conversation, he informed the party that the Bogarts had found ways to hide within the walls and move past the living doors within the tower, because of that some of them had lived longer than they were supposed to. With this knowledge, the party armed themselves with some of the metal and slag within the room because of its enchanted properties.   They moved on to the final floor of the basement after feeding a rather sleepy door a hundred gold pieces. In the room downstairs they found an empty storeroom that was completely clean, only showing the outline of where shelves used to be on the walls. They took this as a sign that the Gelatinous Cube had been through this room. Beyond the next door, they found the bottom of the pit where the Cube was supposed to be and found that one side of the pit's wall had been covered with Sovereign Glue and allowed the ooze to escape. Peering down the hallway the Warlock and the Paladin were able to see the ooze moving very slowly, a fifteen-foot wide and tall cube that bumped into the walls. Before they could leave the room the Warlock took a shot at the ooze with an arrow that the had tied some Flare Steel too, the shot erupted into fire and then was promptly dissolved. The side door out of the room opened and a group of Bogarts peered out along with a much larger creature that rivaled the size of a dwarf, these mischievous little creatures bounded out of the doorway happily with vials of glue in hand.   The fight didn't last long but the Warlock found himself glued to the ground in the path of the oncoming ooze. The Paladin restrained the creature with enchanted vines and delivered a terrific smite to slay it. The Ranger kept away from the smaller creatures and sent them careening into the walls with her walloping ammunition. The Alchemist fought bravely but succumbed to his wounds shortly after the larger Bogart entered the room and fell unconscious because of the monster's expert ability to redirect the blows aimed at itself. The Cleric found herself in a state of extreme fear when the monster appeared and was unable to overcome it until the Paladin delivered the final blow and ended the creature's fear-based curse.
