Trait: Cipher⚙️
Abilities with the Cipher Trait are available via Spell Lists or Fighting Styles, but cannot be Known or Prepared normally. Instead, they must be unlocked first to be added to your Repertoire or Library, or the prepare them if you have Spell List Understanding.
These abilities are usually Exotic, but not always.
Mechanic⚙️: The ability is locked in a locked in a special scroll, a Rod , a largely magical creature, or some vessel of knowledge that allows you to use the ability, you may extract it, expending all the mystic energy within to unlock it for your personal use and augmentation.
During a Swift Rest, you may study the item, using Spellcraft (if it is a spell) or a Knowledge: Martial (if it is a Maneuver) vs a DC of 15 + 2x the ability's rank (Zeroth abilities are +1, or a DC of 16). If you succeed, you've unlocked the spell (It is added to your Library's log or storage, if you have that feature). If you fail, you gain a level of Exhaustion equal to the Ability's rank and cannot attempt to learn it for a day.
If the vessel is a creature, the energy is not expunged.
