Term: Size, Definition

How large something is. A creature or object usually has a designated size or size category, going from Diminutive to Small, Medium, Large, Huge, Gargantuan, Colossal, and Titanic. As a benchmark, a Medium creature takes up a 5 ft sq.

A creature’s size determines how much space the creature occupies in 5 ft sq increments (including room for the creature to safely move, rotate, etc). Each time a creature moves up a size from Medium, the amount of space they take up is doubled (10 ft, 20 ft, 40 ft, etc), and their weight increases by 8 times. This is due to the Square-Cube Law, but there's no mechanical detriment because that's not as fun.

A creature that shrinks has the inverse occur, but they still take up a 5 ft sq, if using a map or grid.
