Optional Rule: Aging Attribute Adjustments

Summary

A character's age mechanically changes/alters their attribute and, based on the game, when they'd be able to learn their class. The charts below would show what would be adjusted.

This is a variant on a classic rule from older TTRPGs, where a character's age plays a part in how the character functions.

How it works

During character creation, follow the chart below. and adjust attributes accordingly. This attribute adjustment bypasses normal attribute rules (potentially leading to player characters with stats beyond +4).

Every Ancestry has a different Term: Age, listing at least when they would reach adulthood or have their maximum amount of life without becoming ancient.

Age Adult Middle Aged Old Venerable Ancient
Positive Attribute Adjustment - +1 to two Mental Stats (INT, WIS, CHA) +1 to all Mental Stats (INT, WIS, CHA) +1 to two Mental Stats (INT, WIS, CHA), +2 to one more +2 to all Mental Stats (INT, WIS, CHA)
Negative Attribute Adjustment - -1 to two Physical Stats (STR, DEX, CON) -1 to all Physical Stats (STR, DEX, CON) -1 to two Physical Stats (STR, DEX, CON), -2 to one more -2 to all Physical Stats (STR, DEX, CON)
Additionally, if one is to consider how long it takes for a character to 'learn' their class, follow the following chart, and adjust it to the character's age. one can pick any class from the appopriate class group they would fall into from their base class or their subclass.
Class Group Combo Novice Master
Channeler 2d4 4d4
Expert 1d6 2d6
Initiator 1d6 2d6
Mage 1d8 1d8
Warrior 1d4 Years 2d4 Years
Specialist 1d10 2d10

Immortality

Characters that are truly immortal are rare, but do happen. As such, this rule can be adjusted to be used with such.

Immortal characters simply add on the stat bonuses. If it should matter, however, they would need to double the time it would take to learn their class.

Impact

Age adds another layer to character creation, though its not always set in stone. A game that closely tracks player character lives, and how they would change over their careers, would find these rules useful. They would also be useful in the hands of people who wish to sick immortal, long game playing kobolds on the world, even if such experiments would not work within this game.

Additionally, although this adds another layer to character creation, it also offers a way of making more character smarter and/or more powerful, but also more frail, and easier to be cut down.
