Segment Armor is a form of Heavy Armor made from horizontal overlapping bands, usually made of two solid pieces of metal or several small plates fastened together. There are often other moving parts to the armor, such as hinges, buckles, and additional plates, but the basic design is the same and has lasted on many worlds for centuries.
The functions to make Segment Armor are also much more antiquated than later or other variations, such as with
Ring Mail,
Splint Mail, and
Brigadine/Banded Mail, and the protection provided is easier to circumvent than other forms of Armor. To this end, Segment Armor was often ancient/antiquated even by the time other standards of antiquated armors (such as
Chain Mail came around.
