Actions and Abilities sometimes have an extra benefit if they're the first salvo of your turn. These openers or combo starters, therefore, gain an extra effect when you use them before using any other kind of action (including free actions), and even Movement.

An example of such would be using the 5-Foot Step Maneuver before any action or spending any movement, making it a free action .
