Cloak of the Daywalker
Protection Through Deception
Malachi - I bring good news. Helena has been working with some illusionist mage and I've been informed that they may have come up with a solution. Enclosed is a cloak that should help with the sunlight issue. You are probably best to try it first at dawk or dusk when the light is its weakest. As always, it is imperative that this remains between us. Good luck my friend. E.O.That simple letter marked the beginning of one of Annville's best-kept secrets. The Cloak of the Daywalker is a full length coat, reaching from shoulders to feet, with a deep hood and a clasp at the throat. The purple material is so dark that it's almost black, save for some golden trim along the edges. At first glance, the cloak appears to be nothing more than a typical nobleman's outfit. However, it's what the cloak conceals that matters the most. A subtle illusion spell helps to convince onlookers of what the wearer wants them to see. For the vampire Malachi Crane, it was simply the appearance of life - a flush of colour in pale cheeks, a subtle rise and fall of breath, even the occasional blink. Not just that, but the magic of the cloak subtly alters how the wearer interacts with sunlight, allowing them to move freely during daylight hours with the hood drawn. The Cloak was created in secret as a joint collaboration between a priestess of Eranis and an illusionist wizard, funded by Duke Emler Oakbrand. Since then it has been in Crane's possession, ensuring the people of Annville and beyond are none the wiser to his true form as an undead stalker in the night. The cloak's magic has never failed, but the burden of secrecy weighs heavily on those who know the truth. Hothanorra continues her duties as a priestess of Eranis, knowing she has used divine magic to protect a creature her faith traditionally condemns. Duke Emler maintains his position as Crane's most trusted ally, carefully squashing any rumors or suspicions that arise. And Malachi himself must constantly balance his dual existence - nobleman by day, vampire by night.
