Tazmyl steel

Steel working describes the arts of both creating and working with steel. But there are widely different steel qualities out there. And Tazmyl is simply the best.

Utility

Tazmyl steel was developed specifically for armament and weaponry. It is near enough impossible to find that steel in anything other than weapons and armors.

Manufacturing

This steel was invented by a half-orc from named Barnom Tazmyl. With the difficulties associated with getting steelwood and crysteel, Barnom tried to replicate the properties of those two natural materials with more commonly available materials. He succeeded in 606. Iron is infused with a small amount of carbon and traces of other materials. Barnom and the Tazmyl Clan found that the impurities contained in the steel could actually improve the durability of the finished alloy. The recipe for the steel was improved over the ages by the Tazmyl Clan as they experimented with the type of trace ores and other material to include within the working process. Tazmyl Steel remains a rarity and expensive as the Clan developed a particular recipe that allows the finished steel to be of greater strength and bendability once hardened. It remains a closely guarded trade secret to this day.

Access & Availability
Steel is now widely available though it has not fully replaced iron. However, Tazmyl steel is still the most prized of all steel alloys. The steel will usually be traded directly from the Tazmyl Clan or through Zodallos due to the strong links between the two factions. Older weapons can sometimes be found abroad, along with weapons made from re-forged Tazmyl steel, though these latter come with a bit of a bad reputation. Some smiths with the right contacts can find a supply of Tazmyl steel coming their ways but the recipe of the steel manufacture is well-guarded.
