Hel's Under Realm

Hidden beneath the Cumorian Mountains lies a world between worlds. Hel taps into primordial powers of chaos and pestilence but needs living creatures to infect. Here lies a strange plane of existence crafted by Hel for her magical experiments. She has built a castle and sends poisoned demons and diseased magical items to aid her followers.   The plane exists between the world and the Under Realm, though no exact lines exist and it is unclear where one existence ends and another begins. It is a grotesque and shadow realm, dedicated to greatness of Hel and contains mansions dedicated to her and her greatest of followers.   Hel's Causeway consists of the upper part of the plane and is used by her followers to travel across the Helcyngae Peninsula quickly and keep stores of goods out of the hands of their enemies.   Despite the dangers, many people in the land turned to Hel and her followers in their time of need, desperate for any hope of relief from constant invasions. Hel is indiscriminate in who she brings destruction upon. Sacrifice is a core to Hel and it is here where the souls of her followers reside in the afterlife. Though death brings no respite to pain and suffering. Suffering bring a true understanding of life and how to efficiently end it.   This land is full of gentle rolling hills and lazy fog breaking up the settlements. A seemingly endly supply of dead Hel has collected for the years.   Great heroes of the past came here in a bid for forbidden knowledge and deadly weapons. These items would end in the hands of the 7 founding clans of the Heldring.
  1. The Deathly Shroud: A thick linen cloth that has become dark and stained through death. It is imbued with the power rebuke death for one night, giving the wearer one final chance to accomplish their goals before Hel took them.
  2.
  3. The Necrotic Tome: A book ancient even to Hel and filled with powerful necrotic magic. Those who possessed it can invoke magic harkening back to the time of Creation, powers beyond the ken of the newer gods.
  4.
  5. The Pestilent Mask: Infused with the power of subterfuge and decay. Those who wear the mask infect not through disease but of the mind, causing those who heed the words of the wearer to become a blight upon their society. Weakening public order and making them all too easy to manipulate and conqueror.
  6.
  7. The Necromancer's Bone Wand: This wand was said to be imbued with the power of necromancy, allowing its wielder to raise and control the dead. It was said that those who possessed the wand could call upon its power to summon forth the spirits of the dead, and bend them to their will.
  8.
  9. The Rotting Blade: This fearsome weapon was said to be cursed with the power of decay and putrefaction. It was said that those who wielded it could use its power to cause their enemies to wither and rot away, their bodies consumed by the blade's dark magic.
  10.
  11. The Diseased Chalice: This cursed chalice was filled with a toxic, disease-ridden liquid that was said to be able to kill anyone who dared to drink from it. It was said that those who possessed the chalice could use its power to infect others with deadly plagues, spreading death and destruction wherever they went.
  12.
  13. The Pestilent Staff: This staff was said to be imbued with the power of disease and pestilence. It was said that those who wielded it could call upon its power to spread illness and death throughout the land, striking down their enemies with a single touch.

Geography

The causeway was built by Hel who tapped the power of the Maelstrom, and was a feat of malevolence and strength. The planks were made from the strongest wood, and the two pillars that held it aloft were carved from solid stone. The runes were inscribed with Hel's own essence, and protected those who entered from any harm.   Those who knew of the causeway's existence kept it a closely guarded secret, for it was a powerful tool in the hands of the right people. With it, they could transport troops, supplies, and even entire armies in the blink of an eye.   But Hel's plan went awry. The causeway had become unstable and its power could not be contained. It began to warp and twist, creating strange portals that opened up to unknown worlds. Those portals became a source of great danger and mystery, and few dared to enter them. Slowly its existence began to coincide with the land of the Dark Elves.   The Dark Elves kept close watch on the causeway, for it was a powerful asset in their war with the High Elves. They used its connections to distant realms to send spies and troops to their enemies, and even created a small gatehouse near the causeway to control who passed through. But the causeway's instability was a growing concern. It seemed no power could contain it, and it was only a matter of time before it caused great destruction.

Fauna & Flora

Generally none. As the place where Hel's followers go after death growth was a part of this domain. But with the growing influence of the dark elves' Under Realm mushrooms have begun to spread across the bleak landscape. Never one to let an opportunity pass, Hel has plans for these mushrooms...

Natural Resources

Disease and pestilence serve Hel the greatest here. Not just of the body but of the mind and soul. Yes, her power is waning and has been for a thousand years but that puts in an ever increasing desperate position. One where she may be the one making deals with higher powers and regaining her lands via extreme measures.

Tourism

No.
