There was a controversy, twenty years after publication, when it was revealed that the document had been authored by three persons, but only one had been credited. There was further controversy around who had the seminal ideas, and whose idea were only incidental to the plot.
Mygale, the main antagonist, was also a source of much controversy, but mostly because it was disowned by all three authors at that time, one of them taking their life shortly thereafter.

Legacy

The collected edition of the 20 first issues were adopted as a signal element of Kagomine culture in 811AK, by the Kagomine Academy of Arts and Letters.
