Ordün
"Ordün" (ˌɔrˈdün), officially the "Territory of Ordun" is a vassal state of Edos in the central plains of Summum. Its borders extend from the River Ordun in the the north to the Quillic Bay in the south, and is bound east and west by the Glass Sea and the Dawncrest Mountains.
Ordun's terrain is chiefly the rich fertile plains known as the "Golden Sea of Ayoria", however it also possesses wooded foothills in the east bordering Qairus. Ordun is officially a noble oligarchy overseen by Edos nobility and headed by Edos' First Triumvir, Duke Callan Lugotorix at Aerilon, the country's largest city and port; other major urban areas include Veritin, Seameet, and Irrigan.
Ordun was settled by Edoic settlers during the Resurgence Period as part of Ayoria. The Edos Civil War saw the great plains and foothills of Ordun turned into the primary battlefields between Triumvir Loyalists and defecting forces. Primarily it would act as the theater for Triumvir loyal General Tenzin Emem of Veritin and separatist General Sokha Rowland of Irrigan. Post-civil war Ordun functioned as the 'United Republic of Ordun' until Irrigan's fall in 521 to Callan Lugotorix. The razing of Irrigan's temporary senate and the execution of the bulk of its members saw the return of Ordun to Edoic control.
Geography
Landscape and Rivers
Ordun occupies the largest segment of Ayoria's "true wealth", the Golden Plains. The region between the Quillic Bay and Veritin saw Edos' population explode over the last century primarily due to the near-magical nature of Ayoria's soil, allowing it to wholly urbanize its Solum homeland. Its eastern region was initially left alone; while covered in old growth forestry its steeply cascading hills off the slopes of the Dawncrest Mountains made it significantly more difficult to fell and extract lumber compared to the northern regions of Avalin and Solana.
Climate
Ordun's weather has been ever the envy of Solum. Where its matching regions in Edos are primarily dominated by the high peaks of the Antlers and rugged hills, Ordun's gentle slopes and swathes of flatland make better use of the warm summers and rainy winters. Ordun has rarely seen the disadvantages of winter snows and freezing water supplies that its northern border states contest with. The ports of Aerilon and Seameet remain open year round and act as the last-stop trade ports of Summum before crossing the stretch of the Glass Sea settled by the Great Stormseal.
Nature and Wildlife
Ordun's western region sees its wildlife matching the calm tranquility of the countryside: voles, badgers, stoats, and mice making up a sizable majority of its wild creatures. Its north eastern region around Irrigan is known to deal with Summum's more dangerous creatures in the Summic Wolf, the Dawncrest Catamount and a number of ursine predators frequently descending the mountain sides to prey on its ample deer and elk residents. Wildlife aside, Ordun contains a sizable number of livestock in the east in the hills around Eastwend. Sheep and cattle are the primary stock, though Thetlin Boar have found recent popularity. History
The Settlement of Ayoria
Ordun began as part of wider Ayoria, and acted as the primary focus of Edos' early expansions into the region. By the time their Brassic counterparts were able to cross the still-treacherous north seas Edos had developed Ordun into industrious farmlands and settled as far north as Marrenvale. Ordun would remain Edos' focus until the first age of adventuring in Solana saw the cities of Marrenvale and Thera emerge as the border-cities to the land of bounty. Ordun settled in as a quiet and industrious region, its interior piecemealed out to Edoic settlers and migrants and its north-eastern region eventually settled further to trade with neighboring Qairus. In its maturity the rule of the modern Ordun region was divided in four to the generals commanding the largest of Edos' military assets. Prior to the outset of the Edos Civil War this was Tenzin Emem of Veritin, Leigh Ricmond of Aerilon, Rowan Grif of Seameet, and Sokha Rowland of Irrigan.
The Civil War
The start of the Edos Civil War began with the Triumvirs call for the return of its Summum generals and admirals to pledge their allegiance to the newly formed Triumvirate. Of the six generals in Summum only three answered the call - Tenzin Emem, Leigh Ricmond, and Rowan Grif. Jaya Rhodes of Thera and Sokha Rowland of Irrigan refused the call, and Tiberius Avalin returned no answer, instead opting to begin the fortifications of Marrenvale. Under Lugatorix’s command Ricmond and Grif would evacuate their forces from Summum to aid against the rebellion forming in Edos, and Emem would be charged with maintaining Edos’ control over the region for the expected short-period that the war in the home country would take.
Emem’s return to the Ayoric Lowlands would greet him with a fractured continent well underway to constructing its own eminence. Enia immediately declared its independence under the support of the Bastion Banking Houses, and rumors of the mining unions in Solana declaring independence trickled down the River Ordun. Once again Emem called upon Generals Rhodes, Rowland, and Avalin to lower banners and return home to declare their duty to the Throne, and once and was met with resolute silence. Emem’s diaries detailed the plan for enforcing order upon the region - the armies stationed in Veritin, Aerilon, and Seameet would march north to Irrigan to defeat Rowland before crushing the demilitarized Solana across the Ordun. These early goals allowing easy access to Avalin in Marrenvale, and a quickly defeated Rhodes in Thera. Enia would present its own problem, the Bastion Banking Houses were not an unimportant feature of Edos and while remaining an unconfirmed rumor, were actively supporting the Triumvirate’s needs in defeating the rebel legions of Dawnward.
General Emem’s plan began as expected with an initial march to Eastwend encountering little to no resistance on his journey across the subcontinent. At Eastwend a small force of Rowland’s was quickly defeated, overrun by Emem’s superior forces. His arrival at the gates of Irrigan, however, was met with fortified stone walls pressed into the impenetrable Dawncrest mountains. Early considerations of a siege were considered, though pressure from Lugotorix and guarantees that the civil war would be shortlasting saw a push for wall-breaking. The fortifications of Irrigan served an alternative purpose, however, and one that spelled doom for Emem in the country he had once helped rule. Early rumors that Avalin had been fortifying Marrenvale were mostly false, instead he had spent considerable effort in fortifying the shores of the River Ordun, and perhaps more importantly constructing bridges.
Emem’s forces were crushed between the hammer of the Stoutguard of Avalin and the anvil fortifications of Irrigan - what had been the largest single army seen on the continent in a hundred years was routed within days. Emem began his slow and agonizing retreat to Veritin, harassed by the Stoutguard across the river and pursued doggedly by Rowland’s forces. Eastwend, Aerilon, and Seameet were captured without issue, separated from the bulk of Emem’s forces - and the Long Siege of Veritin began in 514. Avalin’s forces returned to Marrenvale to begin the construction of the country that would later bear his name, and Rowland began the enabling of the unification of the newly named Ordun modeled after Solana's democracy.
The United Republic of Ordun
Rowlan, a historically unpopular leader in the region due to his isolation in Irrigan, was unable to rally support for developing his control of the region. The task fell instead to the people of Ordun who began following in Solana’s footsteps and began electing local leaders to represent their interests. This quickly spiraled into issue - Aerilon, Seameet, and Irrigan each pronounced representatives who quickly came to blows over the importance of each city and unrest blossomed across Ordun as the cities refused to cooperate. This unrest and strife would remain a constant in Ordun, unable to fully unify democratically for three years and eventually enabling the return of Edos in the form of Callan Lugotorix.
The Fall of Irrigan
Callan and the remnants of Edos’ navy broke the siege of Veritin, and began the slow process of the Ordun Campaign. Aerilon and Seameet fell with minor resistance from the fleeing Rowland forces - and Irrigan stood once again as the last holdout. Avalin’s death in Marrenvale and the near immediate crumbling of his government meant no relief would come for Irrigan. In 521 the siege of Irrigan ended with the execution of General Rowlan and the remaining senators within the city, officially ending the Ordun Campaign and the reunification of Ordun under Edos' rule.General Callan Lugotorix returned to Ordun in 522, his original home city of Wandermere now firmly in the hands of the Brassics and declared himself Duke Lugotorix - promoting local lords to become the provincial rulers of Aerilon, Seameet, and Irrigan. Recent events have seen Lugotorix and the Lord of Seameet attempt better control of the Quillic Bay and the black market trades that have blossomed under Vedea’s unwatchful eye. The future of Ordun remains quiet, for now, though the blackened clouds of unrest in the distance loom as the Brass Accords come to an end.
Governance
Ordun now acts firmly as a vassal state of Edos and has adopted its style of rule - local lords possess large quantities of land and lease them out to farmers, businesses, and tradesfolk. Final "rule" of the region rests in the hands of Duke Callan Lugotorix, First Triumvir.
People and Society
The people of Ordun have seen four leaders in five years and each has brought their own flavor of discord to the once bucolic lives of the Ordunites. The people of Ordun, like their Edoic forebearers, are a bombastic people of unrelenting enthusiasm and devastating abjection. A charismatic leader with a declared purpose can rile Ordunites into a fervor of belief and at nearly a million strong that belief is turned into a reality. This is not to say that Ordunites are gullible, far from it the average Ordunite possesses a tempered comprehension of tricksters and cheats. Their temperment of enthusiasm can turn to wrath on the reveal of a deception, and the gallows have become a favored retribution for the pirates and silver-tongues of neighboring Qairus.
For a brief period during the Edosian Civil War Ordun was handed the opportunity for self-determination in the face of Edos’ withdrawal. For five years the government of Ordun fluctuated and shifted from leadership to leadership and city to city, eventually resting on a representative democracy shared by their neighbor Solana. As quickly as the government of Ordun formed, its doom sailed across the Glass Sea bearing the sigil of the Triumvirates' Callan Lugotorix. In what is now known as the Ordun Campaign, Ordun was reconquered by its former rulers and refitted into the nobility system that had overseen it for centuries.
Ordun’s ongoing reconstruction period has presented some interesting difficulties for the newly returned rulers - notably in the perceived success of the surrounding states of Enia, Avalin, Solana, and Qairus. Despite these difficulties the people of Ordun seem focused and passionate about the potential for the Ayoric reunification, whether that be peaceful or combative is yet to be decided. What was once a generally positive perception of democracy has turned sour and Ordun has turned its focus on Solana - one of Summum’s few remaining attempts at democratic rule.

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
