Pavilion of Matriarchs

A Pavilion of Matriarchs is a type of building used to house and otherwise accomodate the Autarch of Achillonia. The Autarch and her retinue spend every month of the year visiting each of the twelve Amazon Temples, and the capital city of each temple has a Pavilion of Matriarchs. The pavilions serve as the apartments and offices of the "four matriarchs" that govern Achillonia: the Autarch and her three Triarchs.   By ancient tradition, entering a Pavilion of Matriarchs is forbidden to anyone except the Autarch, the members of the Triune and the servants and warriors of the Autarch's retinue. Not even for the purposes of mainteinance can the sanctity of a pavilion be breached. During the eleven months that the Autarch and her household are absent from a single pavilion, its doors must remain sealed without exception.   In practice, the pavilions serve mainly as a space for leisure and relaxation. Most duties of the Autarch and the Triune demand engagement with others, and audiences cannot be held in a pavilion. Thus the Autarch spends most of ther working hours elsewhere -- overseeing the governance of the hosting Primarch, touring the temple capital and its surrounding lands, inspecting the drilling of warriors, hearing petitions from the citizenry, and so on. Nonetheless, a pavilion can be just the thing for when the four matriarchs need to convene behind closed doors.
