The Brink

The Brink is the ultimate realization of power. Many fighters enter, one emerges with overwhelming power.
— One of the Ascended
The Brink is an event that happens once every thirty-six years. It's a tradition that occurs on every planet at their Grounds of the Summoned. Its an area created specifically for this event by the world's creator, Reality.   It's an event that tests the power of all of the fighters on the planet by summoning a large number of monsters, followed by a large world-ending boss monster. The fighters are able to fight the non-boss monsters as a group, but the fight against the boss fight is in a one on one arena. The fighter who is able to take on and slaughter the boss by him/herself is granted immortality along with even more massive amounts of power.

History

The Brink was an event created at the beginning of the universe by Reality. It has happened every 36 universal years since the beginning of life, from the end of the last Brink.   There have been many ascended winners of this tradition and many many people left dead. Sometimes it goes years, even reaching decades and a few times a century, before some fighters have been able to kill some boss creatures.

Involving Cynder and the Non-Magic Era

During the planet Cynder's non-magic era the ruling government(s) were able to cover up and hide the Ground of the Summoned and the monsters from the sight of the people.

Execution

Every thirty-six universal years, the large rune in the middle of the Grounds of the Summoning on each planet begin to glow with a bright luminescent colour. When the rune glows for more than twelve minutes, a strong wind starts forming around the grounds and a large number of beings start materializing out of thin air. The type of being changes every cycle.   Most of the beings are medium to large in size, but there are usually a few larger strong creatures as well. All of those are followed by the "boss" creature who holds immense power and can very greatly in size. Most of the time, the boss has planet-ending capabilities and is gargantuan in size. While the boss creature normally holds world-ending powers, they are limited and unable to use this power to destroy the world.   The smaller creatures disperse around the Grounds of the Summoned, and the boss stands within the arena where the rune sits.   Fighters are able to fight through the smaller groups of creatures, this is to both create a path to the arena door and to have something to do waiting for the boss-challenger to leave the arena via surrender or death.   Once a fighter enters the arena door, they are the only one allowed in. They're able to take on the boss creature alone to try to claim the prize of full immortality and even more power than they already possessed. If they surrender or die the boss does not regain any health for the next challenger, unless it has healing capabilities.

Participants

Everyone who enters the Grounds of the Summoned are participants of this tradition. Everyone has a chance to fight the summoned creature.

Observance
